Lesson

Do we know God?

Jeremiah 9:23-24

John 17:25-26

Those in the Scripture who knew God used the word “GLORY.” It is used almost 300 times in the Bible.

  • Moses… Exodus 15, “awesome in glory”

  • David… Psalm 24, “The King of Glory”

  • Ezekiel…Ezekiel 43, “and I saw the glory of the God of Israel”

  • Isaiah 6… The seraphim were calling, “the whole earth is full of his glory”

We handle the holy and the scared every day. When we treat what is holy as common, we lose the glory of God.

There is the potential of claiming to live “for God’s glory” when it is our own glory we really chase.

  • Perhaps it came from a slow drift, like a marriage where one no longer really invest in their mate but settles for investing in a “marriage lifestyle.”

  • There is a warning about the religion of the “Christian Industry” that uses God’s name, but not God’s person or character.

  • Claiming it is “for God” when it is in fact “for us.”

Ephesians 1:12 says “in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.”
