Summary: Flowing out of his argument in 1 Corinthians 8 that knowledge and rights
should be utilized in consideration of others, Paul uses his ministry as an
example in 1 Corinthians 9.
Paul reminds the Corinthians of his time among them and how he was not supported
financially by them. He argues that it would have been just fine for him to receive
payment from them. He uses the analogies of those who benefit from the work they
do. (verses 7-11)
● A soldier
● A vineyard worker
● A shepherd
● An ox - Deuteronomy 25:4
But after arguing strongly for how appropriate it would be for him to have gotten paid
by the Corinthians, Paul reminds that he did not make use of this right. His aim was that
nothing would hinder the Gospel message from getting spread. (verses 19-23)
Paul reminds the Corinthians that our impulses should not have control of us, but they
should work to control their bodies. (verses 24-27)
