1 Corinthians - For Ministry Resources Youth Series curriculum

Lessons

In a culture that idolized philosophers and educators, the Corinthian church became divided by their obsession with human leaders instead of focusing on Jesus. Paul challenged them to reject spiritual celebrity culture and remember that Christ alone is the foundation of their faith. He reminded them that they are laborers in God’s Kingdom, not the ones in charge. When we build our lives on Jesus, not people, we walk in unity, humility, and God’s favor.

Lesson 1

DON’T FOLLOW PEOPLE. FOLLOW JESUS.

As we dive into a study of the book of First Corinthians, we are learning about a culture that admired academics, philosophers, and educators. A celebrity-preacher fascination led to an unhealthy obsession with human teachers rather than the Great Teacher—Jesus. This preoccupation with people over Christ caused division in the church. Paul wanted to remind them that their divisions and quarrels over human leaders were childish and dangerous.
