Series Note: Each Summer to the Max lesson incorporates a special venue into the service. Adding a venue allows the summer schedule to change while still keeping the focus on Biblical truth. Venues can be done during the first 30 minutes of service or final 30 minutes of service. If you are also utilizing Summer to the Max Junior lessons, consider keeping one venue at the beginning and one at the end. That will keep costs down by allowing both groups to enjoy the same venue. Each lesson offers multiple venue options at different price points to accommodate your budget. Promoting the venues ahead of time will build excitement for Summer to the Max!



Weekly Venue: This venue option focuses on helping the kids choose to serve.

**Serve Sunday**

Give the kids an opportunity to serve others. The best option is to choose a serving project that matches your giving project. Check with the organization or missionary and ask if there are any projects your kids can complete in serves.

Example: During Summer to the Max, we raised money for Sole Mission, a ministry that provides shoes to kids. On Serve Sunday, we decorated flip flops that would be given to kids at disaster relief shelters.

When you make a choice like that, you open the door for God to use you to do some incredible things. Let’s stand and get started with worship!

Let’s find out about that today’s Big Point. We’re going to countdown from three. All of the boys will say, “Three,” the girls will say, “Two,” and the adults will shout, “One.”









**Host**

Let’s all say it together, **I Can Serve!** It doesn’t matter how young, old, tall, small, or whatever you are, you can be part of God’s plan to help our world.



**Co-Host**

Check out these stories of kids who have made a difference.



 - Katie Stagliano was only in third grade when she began growing food to feed the homeless. This led to her own non-profit, Katie’s Krops, which now operates 100 gardens across the country that feed people in need.

 - Kelvin Doe lives in Sierra Leone in Africa. By 13, he engineered his own batteries in a tin cup. He even built a radio station out of recycled parts, powered by a generator he built. He continues to invent fixes to problems in his community.

 - Iqbal Masih is from Pakistan and escaped slavery at ten years old. He went on to help over 3,000 kids escape slavery, too.

 - Yash Gupta saw the need for eyeglasses around the world at 14. His organization has given out over $1.5 million dollars’ worth of glasses.

Those are pretty cool stories. These kids saw a need and did something to help.

The good news is that we serve a God who can help us do some awesome things that are bigger than we could imagine.



**Host**

Don’t think that just because you are a kid that you can’t make a difference. With God directing you, you never know what can happen. It all starts by telling God that you will serve. 

Engage 1

Let’s say our Big Point again, **I Can Serve!**



**Host**

Let’s see what the Bible says about serving in the Big Verse. We’re going to countdown from three. All of the girls will say, “Three,” the adults will say, “Two,” and the boys will shout, “One.”







**Host**

1 Peter 4:10 (NIrV), “Each of you has received a gift in order to serve others.” Some kids think they can’t serve because they have nothing to offer, but that’s not true. Every person has something to offer God.



**Co-Host**

The problem is that we often compare ourselves to others. I’m going to bring up an adult volunteer and a kid. 



Choose a large male volunteer and a small kid.

**Co-Host**

If I compared these two, who do you think would be more helpful moving large items? No offense to our friend, but the adult could do it better.



**Host**

What if what we really needed was someone to crawl through this small tunnel? Who do you think would be better? Let’s try it out.





Have the kid and Connector attempt to crawl through the small play tunnel. If you don’t have a play tunnel, then you could sub with a small hoop or even have them crawl under low hurdles.

Sorry sir, but the kid smoked you. Serving is all about using the gifts that God has given you to do the exact job He has asked you to do.



**Host**

Maybe you don’t have money to buy lunch for your whole school, but you could serve God by drawing or speaking.



**Co-Host**

Maybe sports aren’t your thing, but you could serve God with your scientific mind. The point is that everyone can serve. We are going to check out a way that we can all serve this summer.



Engage 2

Gideon didn’t think that he could lead an army, but God did. God had made a way for Gideon to save Israel. Whatever God asks you to do, He will give you what you need to do it. Your job is to say, “Yes” and follow God’s directions. Let’s take a moment to pray. Talk to God and let Him know that you are willing to serve. (Pause) I’ll pray for all of us. (Pray)

We have the opportunity to help a lot of kids this summer.





Share info about the giving project you have chosen to support. Consider donating all summer offerings to a local ministry or global missionary. For example, during Summer to the Max, we raised money for Sole Mission, a ministry that provides shoes to kids. On Serve Sunday, we decorated flip flops that would be given to kids at disaster relief shelters. Adjust your verbiage as appropriate.

Jesus said, in Luke 3:11 (NIrV), “Anyone who has extra clothes should share with the one who has none.” 



**Host**

God has already blessed us with a lot, which means we have extra things to share with others. That’s why we’re able to give these shoes. Just like Gideon in the Bible who had trouble believing that he could serve, but God had already prepared him for a big win.

 Our Big Point will make a big difference. Remember, **I Can Serve!** Serving isn’t about what everyone else can do. Serving is about what you can do with what God has given you.



**Host**

Gideon didn’t need to be the biggest, strongest, or most popular to do the job God had given him to do. He just had to use the gifts God had given him and believe that he could do it. That’s something you can talk about when you do this week’s Big Do.

It’s simple, just participate in our giving project. Bring an offering of $5 or a new pair of shoes.











**Co-Host**

One way to serve is by donating shoes. Speaking of shoes, let’s play a fun shoe game. We have some flip flops on stage, along with two teams of four kids. Each of you will take a turn using your foot to flip a flip flop onto one of the targets on the floor. If you can land in the target, you’ll earn points for your team. The other team can knock your flip flop off of the target. Let’s see who wins.

Great job to our winners. Don’t forget that living differently means making the choice to do what God asks you to do.





Engage 3

Small Group is optional as time allows. Gather the kids into small groups and discuss the following.

- Who had the opportunity to serve in our true story from the Bible?



 - What did God want Gideon to do?



 - What weapons did Gideon's army use to defeat the Midianites?



 - Can you tell me about a time you stepped up to serve? What did you do?



 - What is this week's Big Do? **Participate in our giving project**

Summer Big Challenge Games: 

Hula Challenge: Keep a two hula hoops spinning on each arm for 20 seconds

Limbo Challenge: You have two chances to make it under the limbo pole without falling

Tap It: Play the memory game on Tap It. Can you make it to round 6?

Brain Freeze: Eat a Pop Ice in under 30 seconds

Hover Ball: Three shots to score a goal with a hover ball

Beach Ball Basketball: Toss two beachballs into a human goal (two people holding hands to make a hoop)

Super Combo: Grab a friend and act out which of the pictures on the screen will not get “X-ed” out 

Ultimate Tag: Try to pull both flags from your opponent



Split the room into two teams and alternate choosing one child from each team to come onstage and answer a question. If the child gets the question right, then he or she can compete in a Summer Big Challenge.
