The Bible is True

This lesson focuses on the Big Point: The Bible is True! It uses Daniel’s story to show that God is the ultimate source of truth, and His Word never fails. Kids are reminded that the Bible is unique, inspired by God, and can guide them to make the right choices every day.

Question of the Day: What is the most interesting true fact you know?

WelcomeMaterials: Lab Coat (2)

Host and Co-Host enter

Host

Welcome to the Lab! How good are you at deciding if a statement is true or false?

Co-Host

Let’s put you guys to the test. We’re going to share some facts with you. Some of them are true, and some are not. The hard part is that the ones that aren’t true may still sound possible.

Host

Let’s see if you can get them all. If you think the statement is true, raise both hands. If it’s false, keep both hands by your side.

Cumulus clouds can weigh more than one million pounds. (True)

Iron is the most abundant metal in the Earth’s crust. (False: Aluminum)

Hair helps humans hear. (True)

There are 28 bones in each foot. (True)

Matches were invented before lighters. (False)

Michigan is larger than Great Britain. (True)

California has a smaller population than Canada. (False)

Cows kill more people per year than sharks. (True)

There are stars made of diamonds. (True)

Gorillas can’t laugh. (False)

Earth is a giant magnet. (True)

Co-Host

Some of those were pretty challenging.

Host

Today, we’re kicking off a new series about God’s Word and we’ll discover if the Bible can always be trusted.

Co-Host

Before we do, tell someone nearby which fact surprised you the most.

Engage 1Materials: Lab Coat (2), Rope (2), Blindfolds

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

Do you think Rusty should be that worried about something he read inside a fortune cookie?

Co-Host

No, he’s acting as if that is where he finds the truth. As Christians, we have a much more reliable place to look.

Host

We’ll find the answer by looking at today’s Big Point.

Host and Co-host choose a kid to volunteer.

Co-Host

After we count down from three it is your job to read the Big Point.

Co-Host

Let’s all say it together, The Bible Is True! Unlike made-up things like fortune cookies, the Bible is full of God’s truth. It’s where we find truth and where we can look to determine if other things are true.

Host

Let’s show you what we mean. We’ve chosen some kids to be led on a journey. Let’s pretend they’re on an epic journey to find…Help me think of an epic quest.

Allow for answers.

Co-Host

Perfect suggestion. This fellowship of kids is on a quest to find (suggested answer). Each team will wear blindfolds. Thankfully, we’ve chosen a guide for you. Hold on to the rope and follow your guide. The first team to reach the goal wins.

Choose two volunteers to lead the kids by guiding them using the rope. Preplan for one volunteer to lead a group off course and another group to lead the kids to the right place. Designate some area in the room to represent the final destination. Instruct the volunteers to zig-zag the kids throughout the room so they won’t know which direction they are going while blindfolded.

Host

Take off your masks. Wow, did you make it to the right spot?

Co-Host

One team did. That’s because they followed a guide who led them to the right place. The other team’s guide went in the entirely wrong direction. We can choose to believe things other than the Bible, but they won’t lead us to good places.

Host

If we follow anyone or anything that doesn’t listen to and obey God’s Word, we’ll probably end up in the wrong spot. God’s Word is truth, so it will lead us where we should go. It’s a trustworthy guide.

Co-Host

Let’s see if Rusty will give up his untrustworthy fortune cookies and discover what is true.

Engage 2Materials: Lab Coat (2), Helium Tank, Balloons, Balloon Weight

Host and Co-Host enter. If you don’t have access to a helium tank, consider grabbing a helium-filled balloon from a store the day before the lesson is taught.

Host

Rusty isn’t making better choices by listening to a Magic Eight Ball.

Co-Host

That piece of plastic can’t tell you the future. It’s fake, but the Bible is real. It is God’s word for us.

Host

Remember our Big Point,

Host

The Bible Is True! Let’s choose an assistant to reveal the Big Verse to help us understand the Big Point.

Host and Co-Host choose a kid to volunteer.

Co-Host

Hit the button as we count down from three, and then we will read the verse.

Co-Host

The Big Verse comes from 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIrV), “God has breathed life into all of Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true.”

Host

The Bible is different than any other book because the Bible’s words were inspired directly by God. God makes all the difference because it’s not even possible for Him to be false or wrong.

Co-Host

Let’s think about it like this. We need a few volunteers who can blow up balloons.

Have the kids blow up balloons and then tie them off.

Host

Let’s make these balloons float. Toss them in the air and let’s watch them float across the room.

Allow the kids to toss them in the air. The balloons will sink to the floor.

Co-Host

That didn’t work. Our breath can blow them up, but our air can’t make balloons float. It doesn’t work like that. That’s the same with any book that humans create. It might be an interesting book or even a fun book to read, but it’s not the same as what God produces.

Host

Let’s see the difference that God’s breath does to the Bible. (Fill up a balloon with helium and tie a string around it) Look at this balloon. It floats. What’s inside of it is different. The Bible is totally different from anything else you will read. It is a book that can change your life. It’s a book you can build your life on. Let’s stand and worship God for His true Word.

Big Story

Optional, play soft instrumental music.

Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. If you’ve ever wondered if the Bible is true, did you know that you can talk to God about it? Ask God to help you understand it and to discover His truth in the Bible. God’s not afraid of your questions. He wants you to share your thoughts and your feelings with Him. Instead of getting angry, God will help you see that the Bible is true and that you can trust His Word. Don’t ever be afraid to talk honestly with God. Let’s pray right now and ask God to help us all see His truth in the Bible. (Pray)

Let’s say the Big Point again,

Co-Host

The Bible Is True!

Host

King Nebuchadnezzar quickly discovered that God is the source of truth. The word that Daniel shared from God came true—all of it.

Co-Host

You can share the story of Daniel and the king’s dream when you do this week’s Big Do.

Host

Ask your parents to share one true thing you don’t know about from their childhood. Then, discuss how the Bible is true. We’ve got some true facts about the Bible that you might not know.

Co-Host

Did you know that the Bible is more than one book?

Co-Host

It’s actually made up of 66 books that tell the one big story of God’s love for us and how He created a plan to save us.

Host

The Bible has two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament begins before Jesus came to earth and describes how God began His big plan with the Israelites. The New Testament tells us about Jesus and His followers.

Co-Host

Reading your Bible is wise because that’s how you learn the truth about God. It’s also what you can use to determine if something you hear about or someone else believes is true. You can read it on your own, or with your parents. It will always help us. This month, we’ll learn more about the Bible and how to use it. Let’s connect with our Small Groups and discover more.

Small Group

Gather the kids into Small Groups and discuss the following.

  • Let’s discover how to find things in the Bible. (Show the Bible) The Bible is a large book made up of 66 smaller books. So, a long time ago, followers of Jesus broke the different books into chapters and verses. That’s why we say 2 Timothy 3:16. That means the book of 2 Timothy, chapter three, verse sixteen.

  • Rusty chose to listen to fortune cookies. That wasn’t wise. Why is it important to listen to and read from true sources? We all need a way to determine if something we hear or think is actually true. The Bible comes from God’s inspiration and it can only lead us toward things that are right. God’s truth helps us.

  • What did Daniel teach the king? That God is the source of truth by being able to tell the king his dream and what it meant.

  • What is the Big Do? Ask your parents to share one true thing you don’t know about from their childhood. Then, discuss how the Bible is true.
