**Host**: Welcome to the Lab! I hope you are ready to hop aboard with us and discover why giving matters.

**Co-host**: Today we’re going to learn how to use the word, “No.”

**Host**: You mean, “Yes?”

**Co-host**: I thought we were saying, “No” to everything.

**Host**: “No” to some things, but “Yes” to the right things.

**Co-host**: Is there a “maybe” in today’s lesson?

**Host**: Definitely focused on the right, “Yes.”

**Co-host**: I’m intrigued. Let’s get ready to check in at the lab. First find someone else and tell them the dessert you always say, “Yes” to eating.

**Co-host**: Hannah has a big choice to make.

**Host**: Which option would you choose if you were her? (Allow for answers) 

**Co-host**: They both have good things to offer. How do you know which one is right?

**Host**: I’ll get to that, but first let’s play a little game of Simon Says.

 **Co-host**: I know that game. 

**Host**: But you’ve probably never played it like this. We’re going to choose four teams to play. The catch is that you have to stand back-to-back with a balloon in between you. Not only do you have to follow the normal Simon Says rules, but your team is out if the balloon drops. Let’s play.

Play the game and then choose one of the kids to press the button to reveal the Big Point.

**Co-host**: It was hard to focus on listening to Simon while keeping the balloon up. 


**Host**: It was challenging, but possible. It connects to our Big Point. I’m going to have our assistant press that button after we count down from three and then read the Big Point.



**Co-host**: Let’s all say it together, **I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** I get it. We need to train our ears to listen to Jesus. That’s how we know what to give.

**Host**: The best way to train is to read your Bible and spend time chatting with Jesus. Hopefully Rusty will give Hannah that advice.

Engage 1

 **Host**: and **Co-host**: enter. During the prior video, set out some items to be used as an obstacle course for the game. You could use chairs, orange cones, boxes, inflatable items, etc.

**Host**: Did Rusty’s pro and con list help Hannah make her decision?

**Co-host**: He pointed out good and bad things, but Rusty never asked what Jesus had to say about it.

**Host**: Our Big Point is key to giving. You have to start with Jesus.

**Host** **I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** Let’s choose an assistant to help us reveal the Big Verse.

**Co-host**: This Big Verse helps us better understand the Big Point. Help us count down from three, and then you’ll read the verse.

**Co-host**: Do you ever have a hard time trusting others? 

**Host**: Let’s play a game to test out our Big Verse. We need two assistants (You can choose more if time permits). One of you will wear a blindfold, and the other will guide you through an obstacle course. The goal is to get through with the fastest time. Each item you hit will add ten seconds to your time.

Play the game and time the teams. You can have multiple teams try the course but rearrange the items in between.

**Co-host**: The guide made a big difference. We trust that Jesus sees things that we can’t see, so it makes sense to listen to Him and do what He says. 

**Host**: No matter how smart we become, no matter how many years we go to school there will always be things we don’t know. The good news is that Jesus knows everything, and we depend on Him. Let’s stand and worship Jesus.

Engage 2

Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. Giving is more than just what you put into an offering bucket or add to your jar. It’s something you do with your whole life. You give when you are kind, when you share your stuff, when you tell others about Jesus, or help less fortunate people in some way. Giving is when you spend more time listening to what others need than talking about yourself. In all of these situations Jesus may ask you to give when you’re not sure why. That’s when you get to take that step of faith. One way to build up your faith is to repeat God’s Word. Let’s meditate on the Bible by repeating this phrase from our Big Verse, “I trust in the Lord with all my heart. I won’t depend on my own understanding.” (Repeat the phrase a few times) Now let’s stand and take time to worship our incredibly good God.

**Host**: **I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** is a wise choice. Giving opens the door for God to bless you in big ways.

**Co-host**: Like Peter’s big catch!

**Host**: Had he refused to cast his net, he would have missed out on the haul of a lifetime.

**Co-host**: Our Big Story is a great reminder of what we get to do in this week’s Big Do.


**Host**: Gather together as a family and ask God what He wants you to do with the money you are collecting this month.

**Co-host**: When God shows you how to give, then you can say yes to doing that.

**Host**: Let’s ask a question to the audience. I need a lab assistant to interview a few kids. (Choose a kid) Ask this question: Have you ever felt like God was asking you to give something or help someone? What happened? 

Allow the assistant to interview a few kids.

**Host**: Great answers. I’m going to be ready to answer yes to Jesus.

**Co-host**: I hope you will too! Remember our Big Point,

**Co-host**: **I Have Faith to Give When Jesus Asks!**  Let’s gather in our small groups and talk about what we learned.

Engage 3

Gather the kids into small groups and discuss the following.

1.	What were Hannah’s two options? **Internship or mission trip** Which one would you have been more tempted to do? Why did Hannah choose the option to serve? **She obeyed what God asked her to do**
2.	What did Jesus ask Peter to do? **Let down his nets** Did Jesus’ request make sense to Peter? Why not? **No, he had been fishing all night and not caught anything** What happened when Peter said, “Yes?” **His nets filled up with fish**
3.	How can you learn to hear Jesus’ voice better? **Pray, read the Bible, listen for His answers in your heart, ask a grownup who loves Jesus**
4.	What is a way you think Jesus might want you to give?
5.	What did Herman tell us to do with our families in the Big Do? **Pray about what to do with the money your family saved in the jar**

Mid Week / Classroom

Welcome to the Lab. Last week we began a new series, (Yell like a boat captain) All Aboard! We’re all challenging ourselves to jump aboard God’s big plan through giving. It doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are, or even how much you have in your pocket. Every single person here can give. Let’s stand up and get ready to worship. First find someone else and tell them which of these two desserts you always say, “Yes” to eating: cake or ice cream.

Split the kids into small groups and allow a minute for the small group leaders to welcome the kids to their group.

If you the President of our country called and needed your help would you say, “Yes?” How would you respond? Would you say, “Yes” (Deadpan), “Yes.” (Sad) or “Yes!” (Excited)? What about if your favorite sports team wanted you to join the team for their next game. What kind of yes would you give? Let’s see how well you can answer questions without saying the words “Yes” or “No.” I need each Small Group leader to send a representative to play this game. I will ask each person a series of questions. You have three seconds to answer. Let’s see how many we can get through before you say, “Yes,” “No,” or can’t answer at all. The team who gets through the most questions wins. Which group thinks their team will win?

Great job to our winner! (Award points to the winning team) Some questions are silly, but how you answer God can make a huge difference. Let’s check in with Herman and Rusty and see what’s happening in the lab.

Lab Wars

Hannah has a big choice to make. Both options have good things to offer. The question is: What does God want her to do? We want to train our ears to hear Jesus speak. He likely won’t speak to you out loud, but He does speak and when He does we need to follow our Big Point. I’m going to choose a small group to count down and read the Big Point. (Choose a group) Count down from three.

**I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** Our Big Point is all about saying “Yes” to Jesus. It takes faith to trust Jesus enough to say, “Yes” to whatever He asks you to give. But you also to train yourself to know Jesus’ voice. The best way to do that is to ready God’s Word and spend time in prayer. Because if you’re going to say, “Yes,” then you want to make sure you are saying, “Yes” to the right person. That’s what our next game is about. Turn to your Small Group Leader to find out how to play.

This game is blind Simon Says. We’re going to choose two people to call out directions for the game. Only one of them is Simon. Simon, tell everyone hello. (Allow the child to speak) Not Simon, tell everyone hello. (Allow the second child to speak) Here’s the catch. Neither person will say “Simon Says.” They will both give simple commands. You will have to listen to the voices to pick out which commands are coming from Simon and only do those. To makes sure you’re just listening, we’re putting these blindfolds on.

Play the game. You can use sleep masks or bandanas as the blindfolds. If you don’t have blindfolds, then just have the kids close their eyes. Play several rounds and if time permits switch the kids calling out commands.


Was it hard to follow just based on the voice? Did it get easier the more you heard the person’s voice? The more we get familiar with Jesus’ voice by reading God’s Word, the easier it will be to know when Jesus is asking us to give. That will make it easier to say, “Yes.” Let’s check in the Lab and see how Hannah is doing.

Did Rusty’s pro and con list help Hannah make her decision? He pointed out good and bad things, but Rusty never asked what Jesus had to say about it. Our Big Point is key to giving. You have to start with Jesus. 

**I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** I’m going to choose a group to count down from three and reveal the Big Verse. I want that group to read it as loud as you can.

Proverbs 3:5 (NIrV) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.”

For this activity give each small group building toys. They can use LEGO blocks, Erector Sets, Magna-Tiles, Wood Blocks, Lincoln Logs, etc. Give each group leader instructions and a picture of what they should build. You could even purchase simple LEGO sets that have simple instructions for each group or come up with your own.

In this activity we’re going to build a simple (Item) using LEGO blocks (or whatever building toy you chose). Here’s the catch. I’m going to assign someone to give directions, and the rest of the group will build. You can’t see the instructions, you can only follow directions.

Have the kid(s) (or the leader can give instructions) use the instructions to direct the building. Allow the other kids to take turns adding blocks and giving advice.

Was it hard for you to not just start building on your own? Sometimes it’s hard for us to give up control and trust God, but He knows so much more than us. God has a great plan for our lives and for the world. Because we trust God, we can obey when He asks us to give. Let’s check out our Big Story. As we do, listen closely to see if you can find out what unusual thing Jesus asked someone to give.

Whatever God asks you to do, be ready and willing to obey. Trust God and do your part with a great attitude. Then you’ll be ready to enjoy the benefits of being part of God’s big plan. Tonight we’re going to practice giving by praying for someone else. Find a partner, and I want each of you to say a short prayer for each other. Ask how you can pray for your partner, and if they’re not sure, pray that they would choose to trust God and say, “Yes” when Jesus asks them to give. Find a partner and pray now. (Allow the kids to take turns praying) Thanks for giving your prayers. Let’s see what choice Hannah makes.

I think Hannah made the perfect choice. She trusted God more than she trusted Rusty’s pros and cons list. Just like her, you can follow our Big Point, 

**I Have Faith To Give When Jesus Asks!** Peter made that decision and it produced some big results. Our Big Story is a great reminder of what we get to do in this week’s Big Do. 

Gather together as a family and ask God what He wants you to do with the money you are collecting this month. When God shows you how to give, then you can say yes to doing that. Trust God to lead you in the right direction.
