Large Group Instructions
Host and Co-Host enter, dressed in overalls.
Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I hope that you are ready for another fun day with Conductor Carl and his friends.
Co-Host
I am, and do you know what I have so much fun playing? Games! I think we should play a game. We’ve chosen two Jr. Conductors to play a backwards game.
Bring two kids onstage.
Host
Jr. Conductors, for this game, we will have a tiptoe race. Everyone, stand up and let’s all practice tip toeing.
Show the kids how to tiptoe slowly.
Co-host
Good job. You can sit back down on your pockets. When we tiptoe, we don’t run. Tiptoeing means walking slowly, just on the tips of your toes. When I say, “Go!” you guys will tip toe from me to (Host), but you have to tip toe backwards. Do you think it will be hard? Ready? Go!
Turn the kids around and help them tip toe backwards. Walk alongside them to ensure that they don’t bump into anyone, stumble over any objects, or fall off the stage.
Host
That race was hard because they had to go backwards. When a person doesn’t follow Jesus, they making very mixed up choices. Everything seems backwards. We can make a better choice and follow Jesus as our leader. Let’s give us a big, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
I wonder what Engineer Kelly will discover at Professor Beaker’s laboratory.
Host
I hope she’ll learn why it’s important for her friend to meet Jesus. He’s the only God in the whole universe. Let’s stand and practice the Big Point again,
Host
I Will Only Worship God!
Co-Host
You can sit back down. God is the only One in the whole world we should worship.
Host
Worship means that we treat God like He is the number one, best, greatest,
and most important of all. Look at this word.
Host
Point to each letter and read it. G-O-D. Do you know what word those letters spell? God! Should we worship God? Give me a thumbs up if you say, “Yes!”
Co-Host
Definite thumbs up. Let’s look at some more things and decide if we should worship them.
Show each slide and have the kids give a thumbs up each time the “God” slide appears and a thumbs down for the other slides, showing that we do not worship those things.
Host
Good job! The other things we saw weren’t bad. There were lots of people and things we enjoy, but nothing and no one should ever be more important to you than God. He’s the One we can thank for every good thing we have in life!
Co-Host
It’s important for Engineer Kelly’s friend to learn about Jesus. We want all of our friends and family to worship God, too. If you worship anyone else, then your life will be backwards and confused. We want to live the right way. Let’s visit Professor Beaker’s lab.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
That was fun, helping Marty the mouse find his way to the cheese.
Host
Just like there was only one way to find the cheese, there is only one God we want to worship. Let’s practice singing the Big Point again,
Host
I Will Only Worship God!
Co-Host
I like the verse that Conductor Carl shared from the Bible.
Co-Host
John 14:6 (NIrV) says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Host
Jesus is the only One who can help you become part of God’s big family. That’s why it’s important to follow Jesus. We need some Jr. Conductors to help show us a little more about this.
Choose 3-4 kids to help.
Co-host
We need the rest of the Jr. Conductors to say, “March, march, march…” as we march to help us keep walking.
The Host leads his/her team directly to the place picked out. The Co-host leads his/her team in circles, going everywhere but the place they are supposed to go. After some time, go back to the center of the stage/room and dismiss the kids.
Host
Jr. Conductors, did my team make it to where we were supposed to go? What about (Co-Host’s) team?
Co-Host
Nope, we went everywhere except where we needed to go. That’s what happens when we follow anyone other than Jesus. You can’t become God’s friend unless you follow Jesus.
Host
That’s because Jesus is the only One who can take us to God. Today we get to hear a story about three young men who had to decide if they would only worship God.
Co-Host
Before we hear that story from the Bible, let’s stand and worship God.
Play optional soft instrumental music.
The three young men showed the king that he wasn’t as important as God is. They only worshipped God. We can make that same choice. We can show God how important He is to us by singing a song to Him. We will do that in just a moment.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
I’m so glad that Engineer Kelly’s friend decided to go to church with them.
Host
Now her friend can learn about Jesus and follow Him. Let’s all practice our Big Point again,
Host
I Will Only Worship God!
Co-Host
It seemed like everyone was bowing down to that statue in our Big Story. But did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego bow down? (Pause) No, they didn’t. They only worshipped God.
Host
God kept them safe in the fire. You can tell your family about what you learned about the three friends when you do the Big Do this week.
Host
Pick a song about Jesus and listen to it with your family.
Co-Host
Did you know that worshipping God helps you? Just like exercise makes your body strong, worshipping God makes your spirit strong. We can worship God by singing to Him, obeying Him, and praying to Him.
Host
You can’t see your spirit. It’s invisible, but it’s real. That’s what connects us to God. We want our spirits to be healthy. Let’s practice doing some exercises that make our bodies healthy.
Have the kids stand and do some different exercises like toe touches, running in place, jumping, etc. Then have them sit down.
Co-Host
Some things that keeps our inside spirit healthy are worshipping God, praying, and reading the Bible.
Host
We always want God to know that He is number one to us.
Co-Host
Let’s say our Big Point once more,
Co-Host
I Will Only Worship God!
Did our Big Point say I Will Worship Lots of Things or I Will Only Worship God?
Let’s pretend to be mice. Can you squeak like a mouse? Let’s wiggle our noses, like mice. Nibble some cheese, like a mouse. Who helped a mouse find its way through a maze? Engineer Kelly Was there only one way for the mouse to find the cheese? Yes
Let’s practice being friendly. Turn to someone and give him or her a big high-five. Turn to someone else and shake his or her hand. Can you wave to someone else? The Big Verse tells us how to become God’s friends. John 14:6 (NIrV) says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through (friends / Me (Jesus)).”
Pretend to warm yourself by a fire. In our Big Story, who threw the three friends into the fire? The king Who did the three friends only worship? God What are some ways we can worship God? Singing praise songs to Him, obeying Him, praying to Him
Let’s count to three. 1, 2, 3. How many people did the king throw into the fire? 3 How many people did the king count in the fire? 4 Who sent the fourth person to the fire? God Why did God do that? To save the three friends and protect them
What did Conductor Carl tell us to do in the Big Do? Listen to a song about Jesus with your family
