Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors!

Are you ready for a riddle? We heard one last week. A riddle is a little like a joke, and this one is about animals. “I have four legs and two big ears. I am very big. I eat peanuts, bananas, and hay. I have a long nose called a trunk. What am I?”

Host

Doggies don’t have long trunks. Giraffes have long necks, but not big ears. Do you have an idea what kind of animal our friend is talking about?

Co-Host

You’re right! It’s an elephant. Let’s use our arm to pretend we have a long elephant trunk. Swing your trunk side to side.

Host

Today we’ll discover the answer to another tough question. We can find the answer in the Bible.

Co-Host

I can’t wait to have a fun day with Conductor Carl and his friends. Let’s make a big, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Yoga Ball

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

It seems like Engineer Courtney wants to quit racing. She doesn’t think she can keep running.

Co-Host

Raise your hand if you think Engineer Courtney should not quit. I think so, too. Let me show you something fun. Look at this ball. Does it look different than the ones you use on the playground?

Host

Does that look like a soccer ball? Basketball? What is it?

Co-Host

It’s an exercise ball. It’s a fun way to make your body stronger. Look at me when I try to balance. (Tries to sit on it and stay balanced) Would anyone like to try to balance on the ball?

Bring up a kid and have them try to balance on it.

Host

We exercise to make our bodies strong. Let’s stand up and do some exercises together. Let’s try touching our toes, like this. (Do the exercise) Can you do jumping jacks, like this? (Do the exercise) Good job!

Co-Host

God can make us strong, too. He makes us strong on the inside. That helps us keep going, even when something difficult happens. Let’s practice the Big Point again,

Co-Host

God Makes Me Strong!

Host

The more time we spend talking to God and reading the Bible, the stronger we get. Let’s see if Engineer Courtney is still racing.

Engage 2Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Sandbag or Heavy Object, Rope

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

I’m glad that Ms. Meagan was there to hand out water. That cold drink helped Engineer Courtney. Let’s say the Big Point again,

Host

God Makes Me Strong!

Co-Host

Ms. Maia shared a helpful verse from the Bible. Let’s read it.

Co-Host

James 1:3 (NIrV) says, “Your faith will be tested. You know that when this happens it will produce in you the strength to continue.” God helps us stay strong.

Host

Ms. Maia agreed to run with Engineer Courtney. Just like that, even when something bad happens, God is with us. That makes me joyful.

Co-Host

Let’s see if one of our friends can help us try something difficult. (Bring up a child to the stage) We have a heavy bag/object with a rope attached. Can you try to pull it all the way across the stage/room?

Allow the child to try to pull the weight.

Host

That is so difficult. You might even think about stopping because it’s so hard, but what if one of our engineers helps you.

Choose an adult volunteer to help the child complete the task.

Co-Host

Let’s cheer for our friend! (Dismiss the volunteers) That’s what God does for us. He gives us strength to keep going by helping us. The best part is that He loves to help you and you and you and all of us.

Host

That sounds like a great reason to praise God. Let’s stand and sing a song to worship God.

Big Story

God is the One who makes us strong, and the good news is that we can have God’s help. All we have to do is ask. We can do that now. Let’s pray and ask God for help. “Dear Jesus, thank You for making us strong. Please help us to keep going when we feel like giving up. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

Engage 3Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2)

Host

I’m so excited that Engineer Courtney earned her trophy by finishing the race. We can keep going like she did because the Big Point is true. Let’s say it again.

Host

God Makes Me Strong!

Co-Host

Conductor Carl shared a great idea for the Big Do: have a competition with your family, and see who can go the longest without quitting. We could have a competition right now!

Host

That sounds like fun. Let’s try different things and see how long we can keep going.

Have the kids attempt various activities such as making a sound, holding their arms in the air, jumping, saying a word over and over, not smiling, etc.

Co-Host

You did a great job. Do you think we can keep going and not quit, even if something bad happens?

Host

Everyone shake your head, “Yes” and give me a thumbs up. We can keep going doing good things for God because Someone special makes us strong. Who makes us strong?

Co-Host

Let’s shout it together, “God!”

Host

I think we should practice our Big Point again,

Host

God Makes Me Strong!
