God Is Good, All The Time!

Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I’m so glad that you are here.
Co-Host
I want to share a riddle with you. A riddle is like a joke. Here it is, “What can you catch but not throw?”
Host
You catch a ball, but you can also throw it. You can catch a toy, but you can throw it. I give up.
Co-Host
The answer is a cold. You can catch a cold, but you can’t throw it.
Host
That was a funny and tough riddle. Today we’re discovering the answer to a tough question.
Co-Host
I’m ready to help! If you’re ready to help, give a big, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter. This Engage uses the Days of the Week song. This song can be found online and played for the kids as you sing or you could sing it without music.
Host
Do you ever get nervous during a big storm?
Co-Host
Engineer Courtney and Engineer Kelly are worried that God was the one who sent the storm. Do you think that’s what happened?
Host
Sometimes people get upset with God because something bad happens.
Co-Host
But does God do bad things? (Pause) No way! I think we should practice our Big Point to remember the truth. Stand up, and let’s sing it together,
Co-Host
God Is Good All The Time!
Host
That Big Point reminds me of a song I like to sing about the days of the week. Maybe some of you know it, too. Let’s sing it together.
Sing the Days of the Week Song
Co-Host
Is God good every single day? Let’s shout, “Yes!”
Host
Let me show you some pictures. Can you tell me if the picture is from the summer or the winter?
Co-Host
Is God good in the summer? (Pause) Yes! Is God good in the winter? Yes!
Host
God Is Good All The Time! He is good when good things happen and when bad things happen. God is always good. Let’s see how Conductor Carl is doing with his train.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Host
I can’t believe that tree fell in front of Conductor Carl’s train. I’m glad Conductor Carl is okay. He is grateful for God’s help because he understands the Big Point. Let’s stand and say the Big Point again,
Host
God Is Good All The Time!
Co-Host
Conductor Carl shared a verse from the Bible that helps. Let’s read it.
Co-Host
John 10:10 (NIrV) says, “A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so they may have life.”
Host
Let’s bring up a friend to help us understand what that verse means. (Bring up a volunteer) I have a piece of candy I want to give you. Do you like candy?
Co-Host
The Bible says that God loves to give us good things. It also tells us we have an enemy who doesn’t like God. He tries to take God’s good gifts from us.
Take away the candy.
Host
Is it kind to take things from others? No! I’m so glad Jesus doesn’t take from us.
Jesus said that He came to help us.
Give the candy back to the child.
Co-Host
Jesus loves to give good things to us. Even when bad things happen, we know that Jesus can help us.
Host
I’m glad that Jesus only does good things. Let’s stand and thank Jesus with a song.
Job worshiped God on his very bad day. Worshiping God helps us have a good attitude, because it helps us remember good and true things about God. One way to worship is to thank God. Let’s share some things we can thank God for today. (Pause) I’ll pray for all of us now. “Dear God, thank You for giving us good gifts. We know that You will never be mean to us. You are always good. Thank You for helping us on our good days and bad days. We will always trust that You are good. Amen.”
Host enters. You can purchase inflatable thundersticks online to give the kids. Purchase enough for each child to receive one pair. Blow them up before the service begins.
Host
I’m glad that Conductor Carl and his friends freed the train. God is so kind to give us great friends. It reminds me of why I know our Big Point is true. Let’s say our Big Point again,
Host
God Is Good All The Time!
Co-Host
Job made a wise choice when he praised God.
Host
We can all choose to praise God. You can do that as you do the Big Do this week.
Co-Host
This week’s Big Do is to work together with your family to create a list of ways that God has been good to you. Then pray and thank Him for His goodness.
Host
The Bible says that you can make a joyful noise and praise. Would you like to help us make a joyful noise, Jr. Conductors?
Co-Host
We’re going to give you these blow-up sticks. You can bang them together to make a joyful noise.
Pass out the thundersticks and allow the kids to make a joyful noise.
Host
We can be happy and praise God because God is always good, and God is good to us. Our Big Point is true. Let’s practice it again,
Host
God Is Good All The Time!
Co-Host
We can praise God, just like Job, in the middle of any day when we remember that God Is Good All The Time!
Did our Big Point say God Is Good Sometimes or God Is Good All The Time?
Let’s pretend to chop down a tall tree. Get your ax ready and chop, chop, chop, chop! It’s getting ready to fall. Shout, “Timber!” What happened to Conductor Carl today? A tree fell on the tracks Was Conductor Carl mad at God because the tree fell? No
Let’s pretend we are animals on a farm. Can you make the sound of a cow? What about a donkey? A sheep? Who had lots of animals in the Big Story? Job What happened to all of Job’s things? They were taken away
Let’s stand and pretend to sneak so no one can hear us. Tip toe carefully. Look around and say shh! You can sit on your pockets. Did God take away Job’s things No Who stole from Job? Our enemy, Satan
Can you name all the days of the week? Can you tell me the names of the months of the year? Is God good on every one of those days? Yes What if something bad happens, is God still good? Yes
Let’s pretend to wrap a present. What color paper are you using? Tie it up with a bow. Pretend to give it to a friend. What does our Big Verse say? John 10:10 (NIrV), “I have come so they may have (bad things / life).”
