Trust God!

Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I think we should play a fun game with some friends. (Choose two to three kids to play) In this game, our friend will act very silly. We’ll shout out what he/she should act like, maybe like a monkey or a poodle. The kids are going to try not to be tagged by (Co-host). Let’s see if you can stay away until I say “freeze.”
Play the game. If time allows, play multiple rounds. Shout out silly things for the Co-host to mime as he/she “attempts” to tag the kids in the game.
Host
That was so much fun. You did a great job running away and not getting tagged.
Co-host
I sure hope our friends don’t always want to stay far away when I’m nearby.
Host
Of course not, you’re our friend.
Co-host
But we should stay far away from something bad, right?
Host
That’s right. Today, we’re going to learn how God helps us stay away from things that aren’t good for us. To get started, let’s stand and sing. As you do, say, “Choo-choo!”

Host
Oh my goodness! Do you think that Mia is making a wise choice?
Co-host
Who is she listening to? (Pause) You’re right, she is listening to Roberta the Robber. Roberta does not make good choices. Do you think Mia might get into trouble?
Host
I’m glad we can listen to God’s word and discover what is right. Let’s stand and practice our Big Point, Trust God!
Host
Whenever we feel tempted to make a wrong choice, we should trust God to help us make the right choice.
Co-host
I have an idea. We will act out some choices and see if you can guess what we’re doing, and we can decide if it’s the wise thing to do.
Act out the following choices. You can act them out like charades or use sound, depending on your group. After the kids guess, ask them if it’s a good choice or a bad choice to make.
Throw a tantrum
One teacher will sneak up and gently push the other teacher
One teacher snatches a toy away from the other
Motion being quiet and listening
Give each other a smile and a high-five
Pretending not to listen to the teacher
Host
Some of those choices were not wise at all. Whenever we feel like doing something we know is wrong, we can pray and ask God to help us make wise choices.
Co-host
Trust God to help you. God loves to help us do things that make Him happy and help others.
Host
I hope Mia will make a good choice and stop listening to Roberta.
Host and Co-host enter.
Host
Roberta the Robber cheated while playing the game with Conductor Carl. Can you believe that? Worse, she convinced Mia to cheat, too. She definitely needs our Big Point. Trust God!
Co-host
I’m glad that Conductor Carl shared a verse from the Bible. Matthew 6:13 (NIrV), “Keep us from sinning when we are tempted. Save us from the evil one.”
Host
Jesus said that when he was teaching his friends, and us, how to pray. It’s good to pray and ask God to help us when we feel like doing the wrong thing.
Co-host
Let’s think of how God can help us. Imagine you think about eating a cookie that your mom said not to eat. Let’s pretend to chomp a yummy chocolate chip cookie.
Pretend to eat it.
Host
Instead of thinking about that cookie all the time and wanting to eat it, we can pray and trust God to help us think of something different. Instead of eating the cookie, we could play a game until dinner. Let’s stand and pretend to jump with a jump rope.
Stand and pretend to jump rope.
Co-host
You can sit back down. Perhaps you get angry with your brother or sister and think about pinching them. Can you pinch the air with your fingers?
Host
Is that a wise choice? No, that would hurt them. That’s not good. You also might get into trouble and have to sit in a time-out. Let’s pretend to sit in a time-out. Cross your arms and make a sad face.
Co-host
Instead of thinking about pinching over and over, we can trust God to help us think of a different thing to do. Maybe we could find our favorite book to read. Let’s pretend to read a book. (Flip through the pages) What’s your book about? (Allow for answers)
Host
Just because you think about doing the wrong thing doesn’t mean that you have to do it. God can help you make a different choice when you feel tempted.
Co-host
Can you show me what a powerful muscle looks like? (Make a muscle) We can trust God to give us the power to say no. In a moment, we’ll learn that Jesus said no to wrong things. First, let’s sing a song to Jesus.
Optional, play soft instrumental music.
Storyteller
Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. Jr. Conductors, let’s use our Big Verse to help us pray. Dear God, I thank you for helping us when we are tempted. Thank you for keeping us from making wrong choices. I’m so glad that you save us. Amen. Praying the Bible is a good way to pray the things that God loves. Let’s stand and worship God.
Host
Do you think Mia made a wise choice by going back to finish her spelling words? (Pause) She did, and she also didn’t listen to Roberta. I’m glad she followed our Big Point , Trust God!
Co-host
Jesus was also tempted to do wrong things. But He never did anything wrong. Jesus always made the right choice. He can help us make good choices, too. You can share about Jesus when you do the Big Do.
Host
This week’s Big Do is to place a really yummy treat on the kitchen counter and see who can say no to eating. Then, talk about how we can trust God to help us say no to doing wrong things.
Co-host
I’m glad that we have God’s help. Imagine if you were all by yourself. That would be hard. Let’s show you why by using a ball.
Host
Let’s choose a friend to help us toss the ball. Once you toss it, you have run all the way to the other side where (Co-host) is standing and catch it.
Keep them spread far enough apart where it will be difficult for the child to reach the ball before it lands.
Co-host
That was not easy. I have an idea. Why don’t you toss the ball to me, and I’ll catch it for you so that it doesn’t fall. (Have the child toss the ball) Look, I caught it!
Host
I’m glad we have God’s help. Without God, it would be so hard. He helps us to be wise and make good choices. Remember our Big Point. Trust God!
Let’s practice our Big Point again. Hmm, did our Big Point say Trust God or Don’t Listen to God?
Let’s pretend to eat a rock. (Pretend) Ouch! Would that hurt your teeth? It sure would. In the Bib Story, what food did Satan ask Jesus to turn a rock into? Bread Did Jesus listen to Satan and do that? No
What did Jesus say in our Big Verse? Matthew 6:13 (NIrV), “Keep us from sinning when we are tempted. Save us from the _ one.”
Good
Evil
Let’s raise our hands like we are worshipping God. (Raise your hands) Who did Satan tempt Jesus to worship? Satan Should we worship anyone besides God? No What did Jesus tell Satan to do? Go away
What is today’s Big Do? See who can say no to eating a yummy treat the longest.
