Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors!

Co-host yawns.

Host

Are you sleepy?

Co-host

Yes! I am very tired. I barely got any sleep at all. Jr. Conductors, stretch your arms out and yawn like you are so tired. (Stretches and yawns) I had three bad dreams last night, isn’t that good?

Host

Jr. Conductors, do we want to have bad dreams? No way! We don’t want bad things. Let’s look at some dreams and decide if they are good or bad.

A dream in which a monster chases you.

A dream where you go on a picnic with your family.

A dream where you swim and play with a friendly shark that doesn’t bite.

A dream where your tummy hurts and you can’t play outside.

A dream where you get lost in the forest.

Co-host

Wouldn’t I rather have bad dreams that keep me awake?

Host

Jr. Conductors, say, “No! No! No!” We want something good that helps us. Staying awake all night because of a scary dream isn’t helpful. Today, we’ll learn that we can ask Jesus for things that help. Let’s stand to sing. As you do, say, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Box or Bag, Plastic Food, Band-aid, Toy House, School Bus, Blanket, Heart

Host

Do you think that God gave Engineer Courtney the earache? No, I don’t think so, either.

Co-host

She hasn’t talked to God about it. Do you think that she should?

Host

Last week, we learned that Jesus taught us how to pray in the Bible. He talked about what we should pray for when we talk to God.

Co-host

Let’s stand and practice our Big Point to find out what Jesus said to do.

Practice the Big Point. Pray For Good Things!

Host

Jesus taught us to pray and ask God for the good things that we need. I wonder what kind of good things we could pray for.

Co-host

I have an idea. Let’s choose some friends to reach into our special box/bag and pick out one object inside that will show us something we can ask God for when we pray.

Select volunteers to come forward and choose one item. Discuss the item and have the kids suggest what it might represent. Explain how we can pray for that good thing.

Plastic Food: Enough to eat

Toy House: A safe place to live

Band-aid: Healing when we are hurt

School Bus: Help us learn and find good friends at school

Blanket: Peaceful feelings when we are scared

Heart: Pray for God to help our family we love

Host

I’m so thankful that God wants to hear about all the good things we need. God doesn’t give us gifts that are bad for us. He only gives us gifts that are for our good.

Co-host

We definitely wouldn’t pray and ask for something bad. We can ask God for what is good.

Host

I hope Engineer Courtney learns that she can pray for good things.

Isn’t it silly that Engineer Courtney thought that God had given Professor Beaker explosions? I’m glad she learned the truth of our Big Point again. Pray For Good Things!

Professor Beaker shared what Jesus taught us to pray in the Bible. Matthew 6:10-11 (NIrV), “May Your kingdom come. May what You want to happen be done on earth as it is done in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.”

Host

A long time ago, God promised to give a special group of people a place to live. But to get there, they had to travel across the desert and wilderness. Let’s stand and march in place.

Stand and march.

Co-host

Do you think they got tired after walking for a long time? Let’s wipe our foreheads like we’re tired and sweaty. Walk a little slower. Do you think they got hungry? Let’s rub our tummies like we haven’t eaten.

Host

They didn’t have a grocery store where they could buy food, or even a garden to grow their own food. They needed help from God. Do you know what He did?

Co-host

Every morning, God gave them bread. It just showed up on the ground. Let’s bend down and pretend to pick up an armful.

Have the kids pretend to gather up bread.

Host

Guess what? The bread was only yummy for one day. They could eat all they wanted, but it wouldn’t last until the next day. Each day, they had to pick up new bread. Let’s pretend to pick up the fresh bread on the ground.

Have the kids pretend to pick up more bread.

Co-host

You can sit on your pockets. Every day, God sent enough bread to fill their tummies. Rub your tummy like it’s so full it might pop.

Host

We can trust God to give us what we need each day. He never forgets about us. God loves us. I’m glad that we have such a kind God to worship. Let’s stand and sing to Him now.

Big StoryMaterials: Fake Fish, Coin

Optional, play soft instrumental music.

Storyteller

Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. Jr. Conductors, it’s okay to ask God for good things to help you when you pray. We can do that right now. Take just a moment to quietly tell Jesus, at your seat, one way that you need help. It could be having peaceful dreams or to feel better. You can tell God anything. (Pause) Now, I’ll pray for all of us.

Host

This week’s Big Do is to ask God what He wants you to do, then pray and say, “Yes!” to doing those things. We only want to pray and do what God wants.

Co-host

Let’s pretend to be like Peter and fish for good things. Each fish has a different way that God can help us.

Use a magnetic fishing game. Attach a piece of paper to each fish with one way that God helps us.

Coin: Money for things we need

Muscle: Strong Bodies to serve God
