Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I have a fun question for you. Do you like to sing fun songs?

Co-host

I love to sing. It’s so much fun, but what if we make the songs super silly? Would you like to sing silly songs with us?

Sing traditional preschool songs with the kids but change certain words to make them silly and fun. Here are some suggestions. Feel free to change more words in the song. Tell the kids before you sing which words you are changing.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat: Change boat to turtle

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: Change star to porcupine

The Wheels on the Bus: Change Bus to Boat

Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes: Change to Ears, Eyeballs, Teeth, and Toes

Old MacDonald Had a Farm: Replace all the animals with exotic animals, robots, etc.

Host

Those songs were so silly. Each week, we sing songs about God that aren’t silly. We call that worship.

Co-host

But worship is something you can do even when you don’t sing. That’s what we’re going to learn about today.

Host

It’s something Jesus taught us to do. But first, let’s stand and sing a not-silly song about Jesus. As you do, say, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Flour, Bowl, Cookie, Table

Host and Co-host enter. Have the ingredients set on a table on stage before you begin.

Host

Do you think what Elmer said about praying is correct?

Co-host

I don’t either. I think Elmer is wrong. What book should Mia read if she wants to learn about praying?

Host

You’re right! The Bible tells us true things about God, especially about talking to God.

Co-host

Let’s stand and practice our Big Point to find out something true about praying to God.

Practice the Big Point. Begin With Worship!

Host

Remember, worship isn’t just singing. Worship is telling God, “Thank You,” and it’s thinking about all of the wonderful, true things we know about God. Let’s point to our brains.

Co-host

When we pray and talk to God, the first thing we do is worship. Let’s all hold up one finger. It’s good to follow how Jesus taught us to pray.

Host

Imagine we wanted to do everything out of order. Suppose we wanted to make cookies. What if we decided the first thing to do was to dump flour in a bowl and place it in the oven?

Place the flower under the table.

Co-host

Ding! It’s done. (Place the bowl on the table) Do you think we’ll have delicious cookies? (Dip your finger in the flour and pretend to taste it) Yuck! That’s gross. Everyone, make a face like you’ve just eaten something gross. Bleh!

Host

If you want to make delicious cookies, follow the directions and mix all of the ingredients in order. Let’s pretend to add an egg, baking powder, sugar, and butter. Stir it together.

Pretend to stir the ingredients in the bowl. The Co-host shows a real cookie.

Co-host

Now this cookie looks yummy. (Takes a bite) It tastes good, too. When we pray, it’s good to start with worship. The more we think about how good and kind God is and thank Him for helping us, the more we’ll be ready to believe that God can help us when we pray.

Host

I hope Mia learned that.

Host

It sure is a good thing Conductor Carl came by to help Mia learn what the Bible says about prayer. Let’s practice the Big Point again for Mia. The Bible Is True!

Co-host

Conductor Carl shared the Big Verse from the Bible. Matthew 6:9 (NIrV), “Our Father in heaven, may Your name be honored.”

Host

Did you know that Jesus said that? He did. In the Bible, Jesus taught His friends how to pray. We call that the Lord’s prayer. The first thing Jesus put in the prayer was worship.

Co-host

Jesus used a word that you may not know what it means. The word is honor. Jesus prayed that our Heavenly Father’s name would be honored. Hmm, let’s think about that word.

Host

I have two stuffed animals. Do any of you have a special stuffed animal that sleeps with you at night? Suppose we were each given a stuffed animal. (Hand one to the Co-host) If I loved my gift, would I hug it? Would I take care of it and make sure it didn’t get ripped? Would I keep it clean?

Co-host

Do you think I am treating my stuffed animal gift as special when I do this?

Stomp it on the ground. Kick it. Rub the stuffed animal in the dirt. Tear part of it.

Co-host

Is this a good way to treat your favorite stuffed animal? No, it’s not.

Host

When I took care of my stuffed animal, I honored the gift that was given to me.

Co-host

When I didn’t take care of mine, I didn’t honor my gift. When we honor God, we treat Him like the most important and most special God He is.

Host

Whenever we pray, we want to begin by treating God with honor. That reminds us that we are praying to the most important person of all. It’s a big deal to talk to God. I’m glad that He wants to talk to us, too.

Co-host

In a moment, we’ll hear the story of a woman who honored Jesus. First, let’s stand and worship God.

Big StoryMaterials: Clay Jar

Optional, play soft instrumental music.

Storyteller

Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. Jr. Conductors, I want you to quietly tell God thank you for all the ways God has helped you. Can you do that now? (Pause) Now, I’ll pray and thank God, too.

Host

I’m glad that Mia learned what the Bible teaches us about prayer. I hope they can help Elmer learn, too. Let’s practice our Big Point, Begin With Worship!

Co-host

The lady in the Big Story honored Jesus when she poured the oil on Jesus. She was very thankful. You can tell your family about this story when you do the Big Do.

Host

This week’s Big Do is to ask your mommy or daddy to pray the Lord’s Prayer with you. Then, worship God by thinking of all the ways God has helped you.

Co-host

Let’s think of some things we can thank God for today.

Show the slide and lead the kids in thinking about how God helps us and why we should thank Him.
