Large Group Instructions
Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors!
Play Superman theme by John Williams. The Co-Host enters. He/She is dressed like a superhero and flies around the stage.
Host
(Co-Host), what are you doing?
Co-Host
You can call me Super (Co-Host)! I am the Train Station superhero.
Host
What can you do?
Co-Host
Jr. Conductors, stand up, and let’s show (Host) our superpowers. Let’s leap over a tall building. (Jump) Now run faster than a speeding train. (Run) Now let’s fly higher than an airplane! (Pretend to fly)
Host
Wow, those are pretty amazing superpowers. Today we’re discovering that we have a Helper, and He gives us the power to help.
Co-Host
The Holy Spirit?
Host
That’s right. Make sure you listen today at the Train Station. If you’re ready to get started, say, “Choo-choo!”
Host enters. This Engage uses a Stomp Rocket toy. If you aren’t able to find one, substitute a similar item. For instance, you could use a balloon launcher slingshot.
Host
I hope Engineer Kelly finds someone with the power to help.
Play Superman Theme. The Co-Host enters. He/She flies around the stage.
Co-Host
I know what Conductor Gordon needs. He needs my super strength. Watch me break this heavy chain. Jr. Conductors, pretend to break a chain like Superman.
Co-Host breaks apart the paper chain.
Host
Good job, superheroes. Hmm, was that a real chain made of hard metal or just a flimsy piece of paper?
Co-Host
It was paper. I really want to have the strength to help my friend, Conductor Gordon.
Host
You don’t need to become a superhero to do that. We already have Someone who can help us.
Co-Host
I remember. The Holy Spirit is our Helper. But how does He help us?
Host
Let’s practice the Big Point. It tells us how the Holy Spirit helps us.
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Source!
Host
That means the Holy Spirit gives us the power to help other people and to serve God.
Co-Host
What if I just try to help people with my own power?
Host
Let’s try that. Take this rocket and see if you can launch it across the Train Station.
The Co-Host throws it, but it doesn’t go far.
Co-Host
That didn’t go far at all.
Host
Let’s see what happens when I have a friend stomp on this launcher.
Have a child jump on the launcher to launch the rocket across the room.
Co-Host
That had a lot more power.
Host
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to do greater things than we could ever do on our own, like helping a sick friend. Let’s see if Engineer Kelly will look for the Holy Spirit’s help.
Play Kung Fu Music. Host and Co-Host enter. The Co-Host is wearing a karate gi. He/She enters chopping and kicking. If you don’t have access to a karate uniform, then have the Co-Host appear in a “homemade” karate outfit created with stuff around the house. You could also use a karate themed t-shirt.
Co-Host
I want to be like Engineer Kelly and chop away bad things with my powerful chops. Everyone, shout, “Hiyah!”
Host
Do you remember what Engineer Kelly learned? She discovered that she didn’t need to learn karate to help Conductor Gordon. Conductor Carl reminded her of the Big Point. Let’s practice it again,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Source!
Co-Host
I remember that. He shared a verse with her from the Bible.
Co-Host
Acts 1:8 (NIrV) says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” What things can the Holy Spirit give us power to do?
Host
Let’s play a rhyming game. I’ll give you a clue, and you can guess what word rhymes with it. It’ll always be something the Holy Spirit can give us the power to do. Here’s the first one: When someone is sick, the Holy Spirit can tell you the right thing to say.
Co-Host
I wonder what we should say when someone is sick. The Holy Spirit can give us the power to do something that rhymes with “say”…Way, play, gray, (Encourage the kids to answer) Right! Pray! The Holy Spirit helps us to pray for people.
Host
Here’s another clue. When you meet someone who doesn’t know Jesus, you don’t need to yell, just…
Co-Host
Hmm…what can the Holy Spirit give us the power to do that rhymes with yell? Bell, smell, spell, (Encourage the kids to answer) Tell! That’s it. The Holy Spirit give us the power to tell others about Jesus.
Host
Here’s the last one. Kids may annoy, you might lose your toy, but the Holy Spirit can still give you what? What can the Holy Spirit give us that rhymes with toy?
Co-Host
Annoy, toy, what rhymes with those? Boy, enjoy, ahoy, (Encourage the kids to answer) Joy. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to have a smile and good attitude any time.
Host
That’s right! The Holy Spirit gives us power to help others and please God. I’m glad that we have His help. Let’s stand and worship God, who gives us such great things.
Optional play soft instrumental music.
Let’s close our eyes and bow our heads. We’re going to use our Big Verse to pray. Repeat after me, “Thank You, God, that the Holy Spirit gives me power.” (Repeat 2x) Now I’m going to use that verse to pray, too. (Pray)
Host enters. This Engage creates a small-scale version of Elephant Toothpaste. Detailed instructions and example videos can be found online. You may need to purchase the Hydrogen Peroxide from a beauty supply store to obtain the 12% solution. Before the Engage, add 4 ounces of hydrogen peroxide to the bottle.
Host
I’m so glad Engineer Kelly prayed for Conductor Gordon. The Holy Spirit helped her, and I’m glad that Conductor Gordon is getting better. Let’s practice our Big Point,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Source!
Co-Host
The Holy Spirit helped Peter pray for Tabitha in our Big Story. That’s something you can share when you do the Big Do.
Host
Turn off the lights so it’s dark, then turn on a flashlight and watch the light shine. Talk to your family about how the Holy Spirit is our source.
Co-Host
Do you think that the Holy Spirit could help you, Jr. Conductors? He sure can. Let’s choose a Jr. Conductor to help us with a fun experiment.
Choose a child to help you on stage.
Host
This bottle (Display the bottle) seems very ordinary. You might think that you can’t help others very much because you are young. But when we add the Holy Spirit’s power to our lives, we become extraordinary. God gives us the power to help. Let’s see what happens to this bottle when we add some special ingredients.
Co-Host
Let’s have our friend add a squirt of dish soap into the bottle and swish it around. Now let’s mix this yeast with warm water. Our friend will stir it.
Have the child stir the yeast mixture.
Host
My special helper will help me pour the yeast into the bottle. Watch what happens.
The solution will erupt into the pan.
Co-Host
Wow, that’s a lot of power. I’m glad that the Holy Spirit gives us power to follow Jesus and serve Him.
Host
You might find someone that you can help today, like Peter did. Let’s say our Big Point once more,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Source!
Did our Big Point say The Holy Spirit Is Weak or The Holy Spirit Is Our Source?
Let’s pretend we are sick. What do we do when we’re sick? (Pretend to do different things like hold your belly, lie on the floor, blow your nose) Who was sick today? Conductor Gordon Let’s pretend to do karate like Engineer Kelly. Stand up and chop. Wait, we need to say, “Hiyah!” Block, like Engineer Kelly did. What did she want to use her karate to stop? Conductor Gordon’s sickness What did Engineer Kelly decide to do? Pray for him
Let’s stand up and practice hopping on one foot. Try the other foot. What was wrong with Aeneas in the Big Story? He couldn’t walk Who prayed for him? Peter What did God do? He healed him
What is the name of one of your friends? How do your friends help you? Tabitha loved to help her friends. What happened to her in our Big Story? She died Who prayed for her? Peter What did God do? He brought her back to life.
Make the biggest muscles that you can make. What does our Big Verse say? Acts 18 (NIrV), “But you will receive (weakness/power) when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
What did Conductor Carl share with us to do in the Big Do? Turn off the lights, so it’s dark, then turn on a flashlight and watch the light shine. Talk about how the Holy Spirit is our source
