Large Group Instructions
Host and Co-Host enter dressed in overalls.
Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I’m so glad that you are here.
The Co-Host enters. He/She has a stuffed animal attached to the top of his/her hat and looks around the stage.
Co-Host
Hey, Jr. Conductors. Oh my, I can’t find it anywhere.
Host
What are you looking for?
Co-Host
I’m looking for my stuffed animal, Charlie. I think he might be lost (Pause) and a little scared. I have to keep looking for him.
Host
We can help you. Jr. Conductors, can you use your eyes to search for our friend’s stuffed animal? When you see it, point to it.
Co-Host
There he is. How did you climb up there, Charlie? Thanks for your help!
Host
We all need helpers, and today we’re going to learn about a very special Helper. If you’re ready to learn about our Helper, say, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter.
Host
I wonder who the birthday party is for today. Who do you think it is for?
Co-Host
I’m not sure, but I can’t wait to find out. I’m glad Farmer Faith decided to help Conductor Carl.
Host
She will be a great helper. That reminds me of our Helper. We learned about Him in our Big Point. Let’s practice it again,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper!
Co-Host
The Holy Spirit? Who is He?
Host
The Holy Spirit is God. He came to help us after Jesus left and went back to Heaven. The best news is that He can help everyone at the same time.
Co-Host
Really? Where is He? I don’t see Him. Jr. Conductors, make binoculars around your eyes and look for the Holy Spirit.
Co-Host and kids look around the room.
Host
You can’t see the Holy Spirit, but you can see the things that the Holy Spirit does. Let me show you what I mean. Have you ever used a hair dryer before to dry your hair?
Co-Host
I use one to dry off my doggie after a bath. Let’s pretend to dry our hair with a blow dryer.
Host
Watch what happens when I turn it on. Can you see the air blowing?
Co-Host
Nope. I can’t see air.
Host
Watch what happens when I point the dryer at (Co-Host)’s hair. (Blows the hair) Look at this ping pong ball when I place it over the dryer. (Ping pong ball floats in air)
Co-Host
We can’t see the air itself, but we can see what the air does. That’s like the Holy Spirit, right?
Host
Yep, we can’t see the Holy Spirit, but we can see Him at work, helping us. The Holy Spirit helps us follow Jesus and make wise choices. He does lots of good things. Let’s see how things are going with the birthday party.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Host
I can’t believe that the birthday party is for the Church! They’re celebrating that the Holy Spirit came to help us. Let’s say the Big Point again,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper!
Co-Host
Conductor Carl shared a verse from the Bible.
Co-Host
John 14:26 (NIrV) says, “The Father will send the Friend in My name to help you. The Friend is the Holy Spirit.”
Host
The Holy Spirit is our friend. Let’s give a friendly wave to someone nearby.
Co-Host
The Holy Spirit is a gift from our Heavenly Father. Do you like getting gifts on your birthday? (Show the birthday present) Me, too! What is your favorite gift you have ever received?
Host
What do we sing when our family and friends are ready to give us presents? (Pause) Right, “Happy Birthday!” Let’s sing that together.
Host
The Holy Spirit is even better than a birthday present. Let’s look at some of the help the Holy Spirit gives us.
Show each slide. If you have physical props, such as a heart cutout or muscle costume, you can use those as well. Have the kids tell you what each item is, and then explain one of the gifts the Holy Spirit gives us. Heart = He puts God’s love in us and helps us share it with others, Smiley Face = The Holy Spirit helps us to have joy no matter what happens, Muscles = The Holy Spirit gives us power to serve God and others. Have the kids smile, make a muscle, etc.
Co-Host
The Holy Spirit is a good gift. I’d think we would all want His help. The Holy Spirit helps us follow Jesus, too.
Host
I’m glad that everyone who is Jesus’ friend has the Holy Spirit’s help. Let’s stand and sing a song.
Optional, play soft instrumental music
When someone gives you a gift, what do you say? You say, “Thank you!” Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. The Holy Spirit is a gift for all of us. Let’s quietly tell God, “Thank You” for that gift. (Pause) Now I’ll pray, too. Dear God, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to help us. We are glad that He is with us wherever we go. Amen.
Host enters.
Host
The party looked like so much fun. I’m glad that Farmer Faith was able to help. Let’s practice our Big Point,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper!
Co-Host
When we have the Holy Spirit, we have God’s help everywhere we go. Farmer Faith learned that Bible truth. It sounds like there are a lot of things the Holy Spirit does for us.
Host
The Holy Spirit also helped Jesus’ first followers share the good news about Jesus.
Host
You can tell your family about the day of Pentecost when you do this week’s Big Do!
Co-Host
Find someone that you can help, just like the Holy Spirit helps us. Everyone in your family can help someone. Let’s think of some ways that we can help others.
Allow kids to suggest different ideas like snuggle, give food, clean up, etc. Have the kids act out the suggestions.
Host
The Holy Spirit is our helper, which includes giving us power to do good things for others. He helps us love and follow Jesus.
Co-Host
Because we don’t just believe in Jesus, we do what Jesus says. The Holy Spirit helps us do that.
Host
Let’s say our Big Point once more,
Host
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper!
Did our Big Point say The Holy Spirit Isn’t Our Helper or The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper?
