I Can Trust In Jesus

Series Note
Each Summer to the Max lesson incorporates a special venue into the service. Adding a venue allows the summer schedule to change while keeping the focus on Biblical truth. Venues can be done during the first 30 minutes of service or final 30 minutes of service. If you are also utilizing Summer to the Max Elementary lessons, consider keeping one venue at the beginning and one at the end. That will keep costs down by allowing both groups to enjoy the same venue. Each lesson offers multiple venue options at different price points to accommodate your budget. Promoting the venues ahead of time will build excitement for Summer to the Max!
Venue Ideas
Lesson 1 (Finding Nemo): Choose one of the following venue options or create your own.
Beach Party: Create sand stations where kids can play in sand.
Popsicles: Have a fun day outside with popsicles and games featuring hula hoops, beach balls, and more.
Water Day: Consider renting a water slide inflatable or use kiddie pools, water guns, etc. and enjoy a fun water day.

Welcome to Summer To The Max at the Movies! This week is Finding Nemo week. What kind of animal was Nemo? That’s right, he was a clown fish. Did he get captured by a fisherman? Yes!
Co-host
That’s when Marlin and Dory had to go on an adventure to find him. Along the way they met someone named Bruce who had very big teeth. What was he? A shark. Everyone, say, “Chomp!” Bruce said over and over, “Fish are friends, not…” (Pause) Food!
Host
Marlin was smart to be nervous around Bruce. Marlin did not trust that a shark would not try to eat him. Let’s play a fun game with sharks. It’s a ring toss game. We’re going to choose some friends to toss a ring around the shark and capture him before he chomps on us.
Optional, play game music. Play a few rounds of the game.
Host
Let’s sing today’s Big Point together. Put your hand next to your ear.
I Can Trust In Jesus!

What does it mean to trust in Jesus?
Host
That means we believe everything that Jesus said and all of the promises He made. When Bruce the Shark promised that fish are friends, not food, he didn’t keep that promise. It wouldn’t be wise to trust Bruce.
Co-host
Jesus always tells the truth. That’s why we can always believe Jesus and trust Him.
Host
That’s why it’s important to listen to Jesus as you read the Bible and pray. That’s where we learn what Jesus has said.
Co-host
Being a friend and follower of Jesus starts with trusting and believing Jesus.
Movie Moment
There is a scene in the movie Finding Nemo where Dory and Marlin are stuck inside a whale. Dory communicates with the whale, and despite Marlin’s doubts, she trusts the whale—who ends up helping them and spits them out safely, so they can continue their journey to find Nemo. If your church has the proper licensing you may choose to show this clip. If you cannot show the clip, simply summarize the moment or describe it to the kids.

When you watch Finding Nemo it’s easy to worry that Marlin might not find Nemo, but Marlin kept believing that he and Dory would find a way.
Host
Even when we’re nervous, we can still believe and trust that Jesus’ words are always true. Let’s sing our Big Point again,

I Trust in Jesus!
Co-host
I have an idea. Let’s see what the Bible says about trusting Jesus by reading our Big Verse.
Co-host
Hebrews 11:1 (NIrV), “Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being sure of what we do not see.”
Host
That verse teaches us that we can believe Jesus even when we can’t see Jesus with our own eyes. I have an idea. Since we’re talking about the ocean, let’s all pretend to be deep sea explorers. Maybe we’ll find Nemo, too.
Co-host
Let’s put on our mask and snorkel. Pretend to put yours on, too. Now it’s time for the flippers so we can swim well. Let’s count to three and dive in the water. 1, 2, 3! Take a deep breath!
Have the kids stand and pretend to jump in the water.
Host
Everyone, say, “Splash!” Look all around. What do you see?

You can see so many things under the water. That’s because we’re not very deep. Sunlight still shines even under the waves. Let’s use our arms to pretend to swim deeper.

It’s darker here. You can’t see as much. Does that make you feel nervous? Can you see anything? Let’s swim deeper.

Wow, we made it to the bottom of the ocean. Is it bright or dark in here? Very dark. Can you see anything? Not much. Even if we were all the way down in the ocean where we couldn’t see, we could still believe everything Jesus says. It’s doesn’t change anything about Jesus. He still always tells the truth.
Co-host
Let’s use our arms to swim higher. I am so tired from the big dive. Let’s take a deep breath of fresh air. (Breathe in) I’m glad that we can believe and trust Jesus no matter what we see, point to your eyes, or hear, point to your ears, happening around us.
Host
We want to listen to Jesus and trust what He says no matter what. Let’s listen to a story about Peter, one of Jesus’ friends, who believed in Jesus.
Host
I’m glad that Peter shared about Jesus with all those people. Let’s take a moment and remind ourselves that we can believe Jesus by thanking Him for always saying what is true. You could even pray that yourself. Do that now, quietly, at your seat. (Pause) Now, I’ll pray for all of us. (Pray)
