I Can Show Love To All

This lesson teaches children that God’s love empowers them to show kindness and care to everyone, just like Peter did in the Bible. Through engaging activities, worship, and stories, kids learn that love should be shared not only with friends but with all people, even those who may be difficult to love. It encourages them to take action by showing love in simple ways at home and in their community.

Series Note

Each Summer to the Max lesson incorporates a special venue into the service. Adding a venue allows the summer schedule to change while keeping the focus on Biblical truth. Venues can be done during the first 30 minutes of service or final 30 minutes of service. If you are also utilizing Summer to the Max Junior lessons, consider keeping one venue at the beginning and one at the end. That will keep costs down by allowing both groups to enjoy the same venue. Each lesson offers multiple venue options at different price points to accommodate your budget. Promoting the venues ahead of time will build excitement for Summer to the Max!

Venue Ideas:

Lesson 8 (The Game Plan): Choose one of the following venue options or create your own.

Sports Sunday: Plan outdoor sports games such as kickball, volleyball, and soccer. Create multiple stations for each game and rotate the kids throughout.

Inflatables: End the summer with a bang incorporating some sport-themed inflatables or games.

Dress Up: Encourage kids to wear their favorite sports jerseys or uniforms. You could include sports games or allow the kids to show off their sports skills.

Welcome to Summer To The Max at the Movies! This week is all about a movie called “The Game Plan.” This movie is about a football player who learns how to become a dad and love his daughter.

Engage 1Materials: Hula Hoop, Soft Footballs

Co-host

I have an idea, let’s play a game with footballs. We’ll need some big helpers for this game.

Choose several kids to play the game along with a few volunteers.

Host

In this game, we’re going to try to get all of these footballs into the goal. (Show the hoop) If you tried to toss the ball from way in the back (Have the Co-host try to toss from the opposite side of the stage) then you might have a hard time hitting the target. Let’s make it a little easier by working together. You’ll toss the football one by one down the line and the final person, who is much closer, will try to toss it into the target. We need everyone’s help to cheer them on.

Spread the kids and volunteers out where there is space between them but not enough to make the toss and catch difficult. Encourage the audience to cheer for them.

Host

Great job to our team! Everyone, shout, “Woohoo!” for our team.

Dismiss the volunteers.

Co-host

Did you know that Christians are like a team? We are. Our team isn’t trying to throw a football or score a touchdown. Our team’s job is to share the good news about Jesus with everyone.

Host

We’re not just showing Jesus’ love to our friends, nope, we can show Jesus’ love to everyone, even people we don’t know or people who aren’t nice to us.

Co-host

We work together to do that. That’s why we’ve spent the whole summer learning how to add good things to our lives so we can be better friends and followers of Jesus.

Host

Today, we’re discovering that we should add love to our lives. Let’s sing today’s Big Point together to find out what Jesus wants us to do. Put your hand next to your ear.

I Can Show Love To All!

Co-host

Love is super duper important. Let’s make a heart with our hands like this. (Use both hands to make a heart) If we didn’t have love in our hearts, then we couldn’t do all of the good things that God wants us to do.

Host

I’m glad that God helps us add love to our hearts.

Movie Moment

There is a scene in the movie The Game Plan where Joe Kingman (The Rock) is playing in the big football game. His daughter cheers him on from the sidelines as he throws the game-winning touchdown. After the victory, he lifts her up and tells her it’s time to go home—together. If your church has the proper licensing you may choose to show this clip. If you cannot show the clip, simply summarize the moment or describe it to the kids.

Engage 2Materials: Change Bag, Heart Silk, Flags Silk

The football player in the movie only thought about what he wanted. Is that a loving way to act? No, it’s not. Thankfully, his heart changed, and he saw how wonderful it is to love others. His team even won the big game.

Host

Jesus helps us to show love and follow our Big Point. Let’s sing our Big Point again,

Host

I Can Show Love To All! That reminds me of something we read about in the Bible.

Co-host

Let’s see what the Bible says about love in our Big Verse.

Co-host

1 John 4:19 (NIrV) “We love because He loved us first.”

Host

That verse from the Bible is important. It teaches us how we can have so much love for people we don’t even know. Without Jesus, our hearts would be empty, like this bag. (Show the empty bag) See how nothing is in there. We wouldn’t have enough love for everyone.

Co-host

We need something to power us up to love. We can’t create it on our own. Sometimes people try, but it just doesn’t work the same. We need love that comes from God. God has given us His amazing love. When we say “Yes” to following Jesus we get all of that love stuffed inside of us.

Place the heart silk into the change bag. Switch the sides of bag discreetly so that you can pull the flag silks at the right time.

Host

God shows us how to love others. He gives us the power to make that choice, even to love people who don’t love us very much. Our heart is full of love from God. That comes out in our words and actions. We can share that love with so many people here and even around the world.

Pull out the flags from the other side of the change bag.

Co-host

Look at those flags. Those are all from different countries around the whole wide world. Reach your arms out wide to show something big.

Reach your arms out wide.

Host

We can love and help others all over. The more we show Jesus’ love by our words and by what we do, the more we show everyone how wonderful it is to be Jesus’ friend.

Co-host

Let’s see how Peter showed love to people he didn’t know.

Big Story

Host

Peter was kind and loving to lots of people. He didn’t have to be friends with them to show love. Peter used the love God put inside of him to love strangers and even people who didn’t like him. Let’s be like Peter and show love today by praying for others. Let’s close our eyes and bow our heads. “Dear God, thank you for loving us so much. Help us to choose to love others. I pray for the people around the world who haven’t become your friend. I pray that they would discover how much you love them. Amen.”

Share info about the giving project you have chosen to support. Consider donating all summer offerings to a local ministry or global missionary.

  • Can you wiggle your toes? Shake your legs. Bend your legs. In our Big Story, what was wrong with the man Peter met? Couldn’t walk What did God do for the man Peter met? Healed his legs

  • Can you tell me the name of one of your friends? (Allow for answers) When Tabitha died, who went to find Peter and ask for help? Her friends What happened when Peter prayed for Tabitha She came back to life
