Large Group Instructions
Host and Co-Host enter, dressed in overalls. The Co-Host is wearing a large coat with a hole in the pocket so that items put in the pocket will fall out. Thrift stores are a great option to find cost-effective props
Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I hope that you are ready for a fun day with Conductor Carl and his friends.
Co-Host
I am super-duper excited to see all of the Jr. Conductors. I could use their help. I keep losing things today. Can you help me figure out why that is happening?
Host
Would you like to help, Jr. Conductors?
Co-Host
Do you see what I have? (Show the coins) Right, they’re coins. Watch the money go into my pocket.
Place the coins in the pocket. Then walk and show the money falling out. The Co-Host should appear not to notice the coins falling out. The Co-Host reaches into his/her pocket and finds nothing.
Co-Host
It disappeared again. I lost all of my money!
Host
Did you notice anything, Jr. Conductors? Let’s see what happens if you put something else in your pocket.
The Co-Host places small toys, like bouncy balls, into the pocket and walks around so that they fall out. The Co-Host looks down and sees the toys and coins on the floor.
Co-Host
Look at that! You dropped your coins, (Host). You are so silly.
Host
Did I drop those, Jr. Conductors? Who did? (Pause) It was you. I think we know why you dropped them. Can you tell him/her, Jr. Conductors? (Pause) You have a hole in your pocket.
Co-Host
Oh my! That’s where everything went. I guess I have a holey pocket. Wait, I heard that Engineer Kelly is trying to learn about being holy. Should I show her my coat?
Host
No, she’s learning about a different kind of holy. Maybe we can help Engineer Kelly discover the Big Point and we can learn about it, too. Let me hear a big, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
Engineer Kelly and Farmer Faith do seem confused about what Conductor Carl meant when he said that Jesus is holy.
Host
I think they might think that Jesus has holes in His pocket, like you did, but is that what Conductor Carl meant? Shake your head, “No.” However, our Big Point says that exact thing. Let’s practice the Big Point again,
Host
Jesus Is Holy!
Co-Host
If it doesn’t mean that Jesus has holes in His pocket, like my coat did, what does “holy” mean?
Host
Jr. Conductors, “holy” probably isn’t a word that you hear a lot, but it is an important word that teaches us true things about Jesus. Let’s learn about how God is holy. What do you see in this picture?
Co-Host
That looks like the wind. Jr. Conductors, take a big, deep breath in and blow it out as hard as you can. (Take in a big breath and let it out)
Host
We need air to breathe and live, and yet the wind can be so strong that it knocks down trees. The wind is powerful. God is the same way. As the Creator of our world, God has the power to live on His own without any help. Look at this picture.
Co-Host
Do you know what that is? It’s Earth. That’s the planet where we all live.
Host
God was here before this world even existed. It’s true! He created this world we live in. Let’s sing this fun song together.
Sing the first lines of “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands.”
Co-Host
So, God is powerful, and yet He is good. He has existed forever! That’s a lot different from me, you, and the Jr. Conductors.
Host
That’s right. On top of that, Jesus loves us all, and He came to earth to help us. He didn’t have to do that. Jesus came because He wanted to help us. Let’s see if Engineer Kelly and Farmer Faith can discover more about Jesus.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
Professor Beaker helped our friends learn more about Jesus.
Host
The more we learn about Jesus, the more it makes me want to be Jesus’ friend and follower. That’s why our Big Point is good news. Let’s say the Big Point again,
Host
Jesus Is Holy!
Co-Host
I like the verse that Professor Beaker shared from the Bible.
Co-Host
1 Peter 1:15 (NIrV) says, “The God who chose you is holy.”
Host
The Bible reminds us that God is holy.
Co-Host
Think of it this way. Look at these two balloons.
Hold the balloons by a string attached to each of them, allowing them to touch.
Host
Are they touching? Yes, they are. We need two Jr. Conductors to help us. (Bring up two volunteers) Watch what happens to the balloons when we rub them on a fuzzy sweater. (To the volunteers) Can you help us rub them on the sweater?
Rub all sides of the balloon on the sweater. You can also rub them on hair to create a static charge in the balloons. Then let them fall again near each other. The negative charge in each balloon will repel the other balloon.
Co-Host
Jesus is holy. That means He can never do anything evil or bad. Jesus is only good, and He never lets anything bad around Him.
Host
Jesus just pushes bad stuff away. We know that Jesus will always be kind. We can become more like Jesus, too. He helps us push bad things away so we can make wise choices like He does.
Co-Host
In just a moment we will hear a true story about a time when Jesus showed His disciples something special. But first let’s stand and worship God.
Let’s take a moment to thank Jesus for being holy. Worshipping Jesus is a really good way to show Jesus respect and to let Him know how much you love Him.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
Engineer Kelly and Farmer Faith learned a lot about Jesus today.
Host
We did, too, when we learned the Big Point. Let’s all stand up and practice our Big Point again,
Host
Jesus Is Holy!
Co-Host
Great job. You can sit back down. I’m sure that Peter, James, and John were surprised to see Jesus change on top of the mountain. Jesus made them feel safe when He put His hand on Peter’s shoulder and said, “Don’t be afraid.”
Host
You can tell your family about what you learned about Jesus when you do the Big Do this week.
Host
Take some time to worship Jesus. You can use some of the songs we sing at the Train Station to help you worship.
Co-Host
Since we know that Jesus is holy, which means He is powerful, good, and kind, let’s think of some ways that Jesus helps us by being holy.
Show the pictures and help the kids think of how Jesus’ holiness helps us.
At bedtime: Jesus’ power helps us not be afraid.
With friends: Jesus’ kindness helps us love others.
At church: When we remember that Jesus is holy, it helps us want to worship Him.
Host
You did a good job today learning something new about Jesus. I think that we should clap for all our friends. Let’s say our Big Point once more,
Host
Jesus Is Holy!
Did our Big Point say Jesus is full of holes or Jesus Is Holy?
Pretend that you are a scientist who uses a telescope to look at the stars and planet. Use your hands to make a telescope next to your eye. Tell me what you see in the sky. (Allow the kids to answer) Who helped Engineer Kelly and Farmer Faith learn about Jesus? Inspector Nigel What did they learn about Jesus? He is holy
I’m going to choose one of you to help. When I point to you, that means I choose you to give one of our friends a high-five. (Take turns choosing different kids to participate) 1 Peter 1:15 (NIrV), “The God who (forgot / chose) you is holy.”
What happened to Jesus on top of the mountain? He changed and became bright and shiny Can you cover your eyes like you see something bright? Were Peter and his friends surprised to see Jesus like this? Yes Can you tell me one way that Jesus being holy helps us?
What did Conductor Carl tell us to do in the Big Do? Take some time to worship Jesus
