I Was Made To Never Give Up

This lesson teaches kids that God made them to never give up, just like Joseph who kept trusting God through hard times. The Big Verse, Hebrews 12:1, reminds them to keep running the race God has planned without quitting. Through games, stories, and worship, children learn that staying faithful helps them be part of God’s big plan.

Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I’m glad that you are visiting today. We have some really cool true things to learn about God.

Co-host

I love learning about God and how we can be His big helpers.

Host

I have a fun idea to start the day. Let’s play a game where we can get out all of our wiggles.

Co-host

Shaking out your wiggles can be so much fun. Everyone, stand up. When the music plays, start dancing, but don’t stop until the music stops.

Host

When the music stops, you must freeze. Don’t move even a tiny finger or toe until the music begins again.

Play freeze dance. Stop and start the music several times to allow the kids to dance and freeze.

Host

Jr. Conductors, you can sit down. I think we danced away all of our wiggles.

Co-host

The Jr. Conductors kept dancing when the music played and never gave up. That’s a clue about today’s Big Point.

Host

You’re right. It is a clue. But we’ll have to wait until we visit the music store to learn the Big Point. I wonder what will happen today when we visit Conductor Carl and his friends. Listen closely when we travel to see them. First say, “Choo-choo!”

Host

Jr. Conductors, is Elmer making wise choices today?

Co-host

Do you think Farmer Faith’s barn will be fixed if Elmer continues sleeping instead of working? No, I don’t think it will. I hope we’ll all make wiser choices.

Host

If we listen and follow the Big Point, then I think we won’t follow Elmer’s example.

Co-host

Let’s stand and practice our Big Point together.

Co-host

(Practice the Big Point). I Was Made To Never Give Up!

Host

God has a big plan. Let’s hold our arms out as wide as possible to pretend we’re holding something big. Pretend to lift it over your head. God’s plan is big because it’s a good plan to help everyone. Point to all your friends.

Co-host

We can be God’s big helpers, which means we can be part of God’s Big Plan. If we quit or stop, then we won’t be able to be a big helper.

Host

Let’s choose some friends to join us onstage.

Bring several kids and a couple of adult volunteers on stage. Line them across the stage, facing the audience.

Host

We need to get the water from this bucket all the way to the other bucket. We could toss the water from one side to the other, but I don’t think that would work well.

Co-host

Maybe we can pass the pail of water from person to person. Let’s dip a little water from the bucket and start passing.

Dip a small amount of water into the pail. As the volunteers begin passing, have one of the volunteers step back, leaving a gap.

Host

Oh no, one of our friends gave up and quit. Look what happened to our line. Is it harder now to pass the water? It sure is. What if another one quits? (Move another child out of line) It’s even harder now.

Co-host

When we quit being a big helper to God, we miss being part of the good things God is doing to help people. And we make it harder for our friends to do their work. God wants all of us to help. Let’s have all of our friends pass the pail.

Pass the pail of water from one end to the other.

Host

That worked so much better. It’s important to never give up following and obeying God. Let’s see if Elmer will choose to keep working.

Engineer Kelly shared an important Big Verse from the Bible with her.

Co-host

Hebrews 12:1 (NIrV), “Let us keep on running the race marked out for us.”

Host

Let’s stand and pretend that we are running a race together. Let’s run in place (run at a slow jog), turn to the side, and turn to the other side. Jump over the rock. Spin around the tree. Look, there’s the finish line. Run for the finish and stop. Good job! You can sit down.

Co-host

Was the Bible telling us how to run a race? No, it wasn’t talking about a real race. The Bible was talking about God’s big plan. That verse means we should keep going and do everything God asks us to do without quitting.

Host

Let’s have some friends be big helpers on stage.

The Co-host dumps clothes onto the stage. Make a large pile of clothes or blankets.

Host

Look at this mess. We need our big helpers to pick up all the clothes and place them in the laundry baskets. Do you think that you can pick them all up without quitting? I will call out a color and only pick up those clothes and place them in the basket. We’ll do that for each color.

Have the kids pick up the clothes by color and place them in individual baskets.

Co-host

Great job! You all helped and didn’t quit. We should all keep going until we have done everything God asked us to do. Sometimes, we don’t know what God wants us to do next, but that’s okay because we trust that God’s plan is good.

Host

We’ll hear about Joseph in our Big Story in just a moment and find out if he kept going. First, let’s stand and worship God!

Big Story

Optional, play soft instrumental music

Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes. Joseph never quit following God, and God never forgot about Joseph. I’m glad we have so many people here at church who love us and want us to keep going. I’m going to ask all our engineers (leaders) to stand up and pray for all of the Jr. Conductors sitting nearby. They’ll pray quickly. As they do, you can pray and ask God to help you to keep going.

Bring the kids up and have them race from one side of the stage to the other, taking only baby steps.
