Large Group Instructions
Host and Co-Host enter, dressed in overalls. The Co-Host is wearing the top hat.
Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I hope you are ready to discover more about the Fruit of the Spirit. Those are the good things God grows inside us as we follow Him.
Co-Host
First would you like to see a fun magic trick? I will pull my rabbit, Freddie, out of my hat. See, there’s nothing in there. (Show the empty hat to the audience) Now I’ll waive the wand around the hat. Everyone, shout, “Zippty, zoppty, zoo! Freddie rabbit, where are you?”
Optional, play magical sound effect. Co-Host reaches in and searches for the rabbit.
Host
Where is he? I don’t think your rabbit friend is here.
Co-Host
That’s sad; now I won’t be able to do my magic show for Conductor Carl. I sure wish he would show up. I promised him lots of carrots if he would help me.
Host
It is sad when someone makes a promise and doesn’t keep it, but I have good news for you. We have a friend who always keeps His promises.
Co-Host
Is it Tom the Turtle? Maybe I could pull a turtle out of my hat.
Host
No, it’s God. We can always count on God for His help. That’s great news. If you are ready for a great day at the Train Station, say, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter. This Engage uses the Fooled Again Card Trick Set. You can purchase this set online. Use the included instructions as you perform the trick.
Host
It seems like Engineer Kelly isn’t doing what she promised Conductor Carl she would do. Do you think she should keep her promise to Conductor Carl?
Co-Host
I do, too. I sure wish Freddie Rabbit had kept his promise to me. Have you seen him?
Host
Not yet. It is important to do what you promise to do. We call that faithfulness. It’s part of the Fruit of the Spirit. Let’s practice the Big Point and learn how we can show faithfulness. Put your hand to your ear,
Host
Count On Me! A faithful person will do what they promise to do.
Co-Host
That’s sounds just like my magic trick for the show today. Would you like to see it? It’s fun. I have three cards. What colors are the cards? (Pause) Yes, two are red and one is black. If these cards are faithful, then they will do what they’re supposed to and stay in the envelope.
Co-Host puts the cards in the envelope.
Host
Do you think all the cards are still there? Let’s see.
Co-Host
Here’s the first red card. Here’s the second red card. What do you think is in the envelope? Yep, the black card.
Pull it out to reveal the “Fooled Card.”
Co-Host
That’s weird. It’s not there.
Host
Maybe it’s on the back. Do you think it is, Jr. Conductors?
Co-Host
Good idea. I’ll flip it over to reveal the black card.
Flip the card over to reveal “Fooled Again.”
Co-Host
It’s not there. Is that card faithful?
Host
Nope, being faithful means that you always keep your promise. That’s what God does, and we can make that same choice. Maybe the card is here somewhere? Jr. Conductors, point to where you think it might be.
Co-Host
Wait, I think I know where it is.
Reach in the overalls pocket to reveal the black card.
Co-Host
It showed up, but it wasn’t where it was supposed to be.
Host
We want to be sure to do what God asks us to do. Then He will know He can count on us. Let’s see if Engineer Kelly will be faithful to her promise.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Host
Does our Big Point mean that we count numbers, like Engineer Kelly thought?
Co-Host
Let’s count how many ears we have. Let’s count how many arms we have. Count your nose. Count your tongue.
Host
It’s fun to count, but our Big Point means that we can do what we promise to do. That’s faithfulness. Let’s say our Big Point again,
Host
Count On Me!
Co-Host
Let’s read the verse that Mrs. Meagan shared from the Bible.
Co-Host
Hebrews 10:23 (NIrV) says, “The God who promised is faithful.”
Host
God is faithful all the time. He never ever forgets a promise. We know that God is always with us. You can count on Him. Let’s think of some things that are always there, day after day.
Co-Host
Jr. Conductors, what is that? (Pause) Yes, it’s the sun. Where do we find the sun? Does the sun rise in the sky in the morning or at night? (Pause) In the morning. Let’s pretend to be the sun rising. Squat down low. Slowly rise and reach your hands out wide, like rays of sunshine.
Host
You can sit back down. The sun appears in the sky day after day. What do you see at night in the sky?
Host
The moon. Some nights we don’t see the full moon, but it’s still in the sky. What do you see here?
Host
I see the ocean. The oceans waves crash on the beach each and every day. Let’s move our arms like waves.
Co-Host
I’m glad that God will never go away. I sure wish Freddie Rabbit was like that.
Host
Even if the sun went away or the moon stopped shining, God would still be. He will never forget about His promises or us. We get to be like God when we are faithful. Let’s stand and worship God!
Jr. Conductors, our Big Verse says that God is faithful. Let’s tell God, "Thank You” for keeping His promises. You can do that quietly, right where you sit. Tell God, “Thank You” now. (Pause) You did a great job praying by yourself. Let’s keep our heads bowed and our eyes closed, so we can keep praying. Dear God, thank You for always doing what You promise to do. Help us to be faithful, too, and do what we say we will do. I’m so glad we can count on You. Amen.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Host
Engineer Kelly kept her promise and followed the Big Point. Let’s say it again together,
Host
Count On Me!
Co-Host
We can be faithful this week when we do the Big Do with our families.
Host
This week’s Big Do is to have a family game night. Do you like to play games with your family? What’s your favorite game to play? Do you ever play Candyland?
Co-Host
This is important. When you play, give everyone a job to do. Someone could share snacks, or pick music to listen to, or set out the game. Make sure you are faithful to do your job.
Host
I know a fun game to play, the floor is lava. You set up couch cushions on the floor and jump from the couch to a chair without touching the floor. You can only jump on cushions. Let’s try that now. I have some squares set out on stage. Let’s see if some friends and I can jump from one square to another without touching the floor.
Choose a few kids to help you jump from square to square.
Host
I’m sure you’ll have a great game night.
Co-Host
I just wish Freddie Rabbit would show up. Maybe he’s in this bag. (Show the change bag) This bag’s empty, but maybe we can get him to come out. Say “Zippty, zoppty, zoo! Freddie rabbit, where are you?”
Optional, play magic sound effect. Co-Host changes the change bag switch and reaches in to pull out the rabbit.
Co-Host
My friend is here. He didn’t leave me after all.
Host
Neither will God. I know you will be faithful, too. Remember our Big Point,
Host
Count On Me!
Did our Big Point say, I Will Forget My Promises or Count On Me?
Let’s pretend that some bad guys are nearby. Stand up and pretend to sneak away. Shh, we have to be quiet. Let’s run in place so we can get far away. When the bad guys came to grab Jesus, did Peter stay or run away? He ran away
When you do something wrong, what two words are really good to say? I’m Sorry Did Jesus forgive Peter after He came back to life? Yes Did Peter promise to always help Jesus? Yes
Can you show me what it looks like when someone is scared? Look really scared. Look really, really scared. What does it look like when someone is brave and strong? Did Peter stay strong and keep his promise to help Jesus? Yes
Who is the One person who will never forget a promise or ever leave us? God What does our Big Verse say? Hebrews 10:23 (NIrV), “The (friend / God) who promised is faithful.”
