The Co-Host messes up the dribble several times.

Co-Host Dribbling a basketball is hard.

Host Jr. Conductors, have you ever tried to bounce a ball like that? Let’s pretend to do that together now.

Co-Host They can do it, but I can’t. I’m no good. I quit.

Host No, don’t do that. Jr. Conductors, do you think our friend should quit? (Pause) I agree. Don’t stop just because it’s hard. I think you need some encouragement.

Co-Host What’s that?

Host Encouragement means that we will cheer for you and want you to do your best. Do you think you could try it again? See if you can dribble it 5 times in a row. We’ll count.

The Co-Host attempts to dribble it. He/She messes up a couple of times and then dribbles 5 times. Have the kids clap.

Co-Host I did it!

Host You kept dribbling. Today we will get to meet someone in the Bible who kept going, too. Let’s get the fun started with a big, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Paper Wads, Trash Can, Cup (4), Pitcher of Water, Table

Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Mia is having a hard time learning how to read. Have any of you started learning to read yet? Can you read this word?

Help the kids sound out the word.

Host Good job. Do you think that Conductor Carl and his friends would laugh at Mia if they heard her trying to read? I don’t think so either, but it sounds like she wants to quit. Let’s practice our Big Point, so we can help her make a good choice,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Host We learned last week at the Train Station that God has a big plan and we get to be His big helpers. Do you think it would be a big help to God if we give up?

Co-Host Let’s have some Jr. Conductors help us with some chores at the Train Station to see what happens when we quit.

Bring up a few volunteers. The Co-Host spreads wads of paper on the stage.

Host Look at all of this trash. We need to clean it up. Can you help me pick it up?

Have the kids pick up a few pieces of paper, then stop doing it.

Co-Host Jr. Conductors, they gave up cleaning. Look around the Train Station. What do you see?

Host That’s right; there is still trash on the ground. Let’s help our friends. Shout, “Don’t give up!”

Have the kids pick up all the paper and put it in the trash bag.

Co-Host Some of the hard-working engineers are thirsty. Let’s help them by pouring some cups of water to share.

Help the kids pour water into one or two of the cups and stop.

Host Do you think that is enough water for all of our thirsty engineers? No, there are still empty cups. Let’s encourage our friends. Say, “Don’t give up!”

Help the kids pour the water into the remaining cups.

Co-Host Let’s clap for our friends because they didn’t give up.

Host We don’t want to give up either because we want to be God’s big helpers. Let’s see if Mia will choose to keep learning to read.

Engage 2Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2)

Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host I’m glad that Mia decided to not hide her book. Do you think that Engineer Kelly will help her practice reading?

Host I think so, too. Learning to read is something that Mia can use in God’s big plan. She has to keep following the Big Point. Let’s practice it again,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Co-Host Engineer Kelly helped Mia. She learned that the Big Point comes from the Bible. Today’s Big Verse,

Co-Host Galatians 6:9 (NIrV) says, “Let us not become tired of doing good.” When are you the most tired? (Allow for answers)

Host Let’s see if we can do different activities for 30 whole seconds without stopping. You might get tired, but let’s see if we can keep going.

Have the kids participate in endurance activities. Do as many as time allows. You can also consider lowering the time if necessary. Example activities would be holding both arms as high as you can, hopping on one foot, running in place, bodyweight squats, etc.

Co-Host It wasn’t easy to keep going, but you did it. We don’t give up when we’re doing good because we know that God will do great things in His big plan.

Host God wants to help lots of people, and He wants you to be part of it. If we give up too early, then some people may miss out.

Co-Host We wouldn’t want that to happen. Last week, at the Big Story Station, we learned about Joseph. I wonder if he ever gave up. I’m so excited to find out. First let’s stand and sing a song to God.

Big Story

Optional: Play Soft Instrumental Song

We can keep going just like Joseph did. It helps that we have so many friends at church. We can encourage each other. One way to do that is to pray for your friends. Let’s pray now. Can you hold hands with the friend beside you? Let’s practice praying for each other. I’ll show you how. First say, “Dear Jesus.” Now say, “Help my friends to not give up.” Let’s say, “Thank You, Jesus. Amen.” You did it! You prayed for your friends.

Engage 3Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2)

Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Mia was able to read the book! I’m proud of her.

Host She found a way to use reading in God’s big plan. I’m glad she listened to our Big Point,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Co-Host Even though some people were mean to Joseph, he didn’t quit. Joseph trusted God and kept working hard. He even did his best in jail.

Host You can all tell your family about Joseph’s story when you do the Big Do this week. Conductor Carl gave us a fun idea.

Host Take a walk or ride a bicycle or tricycle with your family. Decide how far you want to go and don’t stop until you get there.

Co-Host I have a fun idea. Let’s stand and pretend to take a walk somewhere. Where should we go? (Allow for answers) That sounds fun. Let’s walk.

Have the kids walk in place. As you do, point out different things one might see on the way. Ask the kids to imagine things they see. Pretend to be tired and have the kids encourage you to continue

Co-Host You’re going to have fun with the Big Do this week.
