Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! We are having so much fun learning about the Bible. The Bible is a special book that God gave us to learn what is true.

Co-host

I have a fun idea to begin today. Let’s go on an adventure together. Where could we pretend to go? What if we pretended to walk through the jungle and find baby animals?

Host

Baby animals are so cute. (Co-host) and I will lead you. That makes us your guides. We’ll put on our explorer hats. (Put on the hats) Let’s all stand up and pretend to search through the jungle.

Pretend to search through the jungle. The video is a slideshow with video clips of different baby animals. Have the kids tell you which animal it is and what they see the animal doing.

Host

That was a fun adventure. You can sit on your pockets.

Co-host

If you tried to walk through the jungle by yourself, you could get lost in all the trees. The jungle can be a confusing place. That’s why you need someone to lead or guide you when you visit new places.

Host

That’s what we’re learning about the Bible. The Bible helps us by leading us to good things and away from bad ones. Before we visit Conductor Carl and his friends, let’s say, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Cookies, Mixing Bowl, Spoon

Host and Co-host enter. Prior to service, make two batches of sugar cookies. One batch follows a recipe exactly. Make the other batch with no sugar.

Host

Is Lionel doing a good job setting up his camp? No, he’s having lots of trouble.

Co-host

Engineer Kelly is there and could help him. She is his camping guide, but she can’t help if he doesn’t listen to her.

Host

That’s like us. We need a guide to help us make wise choices. Thankfully, God gave us a special book that does lead us.

Co-host

Let’s stand and practice our Big Point to find out what that is.

Co-host

(Practice the Big Point) The Bible Guides Us!

Host

God wanted us to have a book to teach us about how much He loves us and the great big plan He created for us. God had different people write books to help us.

Co-host

That’s why we should listen to everything the Bible teaches us to do. If you don’t listen, that can cause big problems.

Host

Let’s show you what we mean. Does anyone here like cookies? Me, too! Let’s pretend to make cookies. Pretend to dump in your flour, sugar, butter, and eggs. Now, stir it around.

Use the mixing bowl and spoon.

Co-host

Let’s put the cookies on a tray and place them in the oven. Now we have to wait. That part is hard because I’m ready to eat cookies. (Pause) Ding! It’s time. Let’s pull the hot cookies out of the oven. Blow on them to cool them down.

Host

Would anyone like to try a cookie we made?

Choose a few volunteers. Have them try both cookies.

Co-host

Do they both taste good? They don’t? What’s wrong?

Host

One cookie was made by following all of the directions in the recipe. A recipe is a guide that tells you how to make food like cookies. That cookie tastes good. But we didn’t follow the recipe guide for the other cookie and left out the sweet sugar, which is why it tastes bad.

Co-host

That’s why we want to follow our guide, especially the Bible. Let’s see if Lionel chooses to follow his camping guide.

Engage 2Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Chair

Host and Co-host enter.

Host

Lionel was very confused about how to make a roasted marshmallow s’more. Ketchup and mustard would not taste good on them, would they? He needs to listen to his guide, Engineer Kelly. Let’s stand and practice the Big Point again, (VFX: Big Point Video) The Bible Guides Us!

Co-host

I’m glad the Bible is our guide. Engineer Kelly shared an important Big Verse with Lionel from the Bible.

Co-host

2 Timothy 3:16 (NIrV) says, “God has breathed life into all of Scripture…It is useful for correcting our mistakes.”

Host

Have you ever made a wrong choice at home? Yes, we all make wrong choices sometimes. Let’s look at some choices and tell us if they seem wrong and why they might be wrong.

Have the kids describe the choices they see being made.

Co-host

If you make one of those wrong choices, you will probably be punished by your mommy or daddy. You might have to sit in the time-out chair. (Show the chair and sit in it) That’s because your mommy and daddy want you to learn to make wise choices. They are correcting you.

Host

When you are corrected, you can make better choices. Look at these choices and tell me if you think these choices are better.

Have the kids describe why the new choices are better.

Host

The Bible corrects us by helping us know what God wants us to do. If we make a wrong choice, the Bible guides us to help us change and do the right thing.

Co-host

Before we hear our Big Story, let’s stand and worship God for His Word!

Big Story

Optional play soft instrumental music

Jr. Conductors, can you think of something that you did wrong? God loves you no matter what you do, but it is a wise choice to tell God you are sorry and learn how to make a better choice next time. Quietly talk to God about that wrong choice and tell Him you are sorry. (Pause) Let’s bow our heads, close our eyes, and talk to Jesus. Dear Jesus, thank You for helping us learn how to make the best choices and for letting us know when we make a mistake. Help us to always listen to You and follow what we read in the Bible. Amen.

Engage 3Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2)

This Engage uses a Books of the Bible song. Different versions can be purchased or found online. Find one that works for your group. For this series, we will focus on learning the New Testament books.

Host

Lionel is enjoying his camping trip because he listened to Engineer Kelly. He followed his guide. We can do that, too. Let’s practice our Big Point,

Host

The Bible Guides Us!

Co-host

At first, Abraham listened to the wrong guide and made a bad choice. That caused lots of problems. Thankfully, he chose to listen and obey what God said to do. We can tell our family about Abraham when we do the Big Do.

Host

This week’s Big Do is to use an online map or GPS to guide you somewhere fun, like a park, restaurant, or store. Talk with your family about how God guides us.

Co-host

This month, we’re learning the books in the Bible. A fun way to do that is to sing a song with all of the books in the song. Let’s listen to it and then sing along!

Play Books of the Bible Song and sing along. You can even incorporate your worship team in this segment and add fun motions to the song.

Host

That was lots of fun. I think it would be fun if we could all learn the books of the Bible. Let’s say our Big Point.

Host

Big Review
  • Let’s Practice our Big Point again. Hmm, did our Big Point say The Bible Gets Us Lost? or The Bible Guides Us!

  • Let’s pretend that we are sitting outside at night. What things would you see in the sky? Have the kids describe the kinds of things you might see God told Abraham that his family would be as many as these shiny things you see in the night sky. Stars Did God keep His promise to Abraham? Yes

  • Let’s pretend to sit in the time-out chair. See how long you can wait quietly. (Pause for a few moments) You stayed quiet for a long time. 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIrV), “God has breathed life into all of Scripture…It is useful for correcting our _______.”
