Small Group Instructions

Section 01

Objective: To teach junior high students how God's power can help us overcome challenges and obstacles in our lives, using the story of Moses from the Old Testament and connecting it to New Testament scriptures that emphasize God's support and guidance.

Begin with a brief prayer, asking for God's guidance in our lesson.

Discuss the key elements of the story:

  • Moses' background and upbringing.
  • His encounter with the burning bush.
  • God's call for Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
  • Moses' doubts and questions.
  • God's reassurance and promise of help.

How did Moses react when God called him? What were his doubts and concerns?

What did God promise Moses in response to his doubts?

What can we learn from this story about God's power to help us do anything, even when we doubt ourselves?

Sword drills are a fun way of getting students familiar with their Bible. Encourage everyone to participate and when you change the screen to a new Bible Verse make them wait until you say “Go” to look it up. The first one to the scripture stands up and starts reading. Feel free to hand out some kind of candy or prize to the winner each time. If the same student continues to beat the rest, choose the second person to find it. Encourage all kids to find it and read it for themselves.

Discuss each of these scriptures and their relevance to our lesson: How do these verses reinforce the idea that God's power can help us overcome challenges? How does faith in Jesus connect to our ability to do all things?

New Testament scriptures remind us of the strength and support we have through our faith in Jesus.

End with a prayer, asking God to strengthen and guide each student in their challenges and obstacles, just as He did with Moses.

Assign students to read one of the New Testament scriptures discussed during the lesson (Philippians 4:13, 2 Corinthians 12:9, or Matthew 19:26) and write a short reflection on how it applies to their lives.

By connecting the Old Testament story of Moses to New Testament verses, this lesson demonstrates that God's power and assistance are available to us today, just as they were to Moses in ancient times.
