Small Group Instructions
Compare training for Olympics to the Christian journey—how we, too, are called to be disciplined, to persevere, and to keep our eyes on the prize, which is eternal life with God.
Training for the Race Discuss 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, where Paul compares the Christian life to a race.
Just like Olympic athletes, Christians must train spiritually through prayer, reading the Bible, and living a life of faith.
Running with Purpose:
• Emphasize that athletes don't run aimlessly—they have a goal. As Christians, our goal is to live for Jesus and to help others know Him.
• Discuss the importance of having a purpose in our faith journey. How can we stay focused on our spiritual goals?
Endurance and Perseverance:
• Just as Olympic athletes face challenges and setbacks, Christians also face difficulties in life. However, with faith and perseverance, we can overcome these challenges.
• Share stories of Olympic athletes who have overcome obstacles, and relate them to the challenges we face in our Christian walk.
• Encourage students to think about what their "prize" is—eternal life, a closer relationship with God, or impacting others for Christ.
• Pray for strength and perseverance for the students in their faith journey, asking God to help them stay focused on their spiritual goals and to run the race with purpose and discipline.
