About

This one-year series, perfect for 4th-7th graders, is designed to engage families with fun games, exciting challenges, and Bible stories that teach about the love of Jesus.

Small Group Instructions

Section 01Materials: A couple battleship games if possible or build a life size battleship game in your room.

It is important for the teacher leading this lesson to know the entire story of Joseph. Because time is short, you won’t have time to read the entire story but you will have time to retell it should you have students unfamiliar with it. You can read the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-42. Please read it and refresh your own memory of key events in Joseph’s life. Should you want an activity for the end of class, obtain a battleship game, divide the class into 2 groups and have them take turns placing the ships and playing the game.

Give everyone a turn to answer

Joseph's brothers betrayed him and sold him into slavery. Have you ever experienced betrayal or mistreatment from someone close to you?

Can anyone tell us the rest of the story of Joseph?

Help them to remember the main parts. Example 1: Joseph being thrown into jail for not doing what Potiphar’s wife wanted and then she lied about it. Example 2: Joseph becoming high in command in the kingdom. Example 3: Forgiving his brothers

How can Joseph's forgiveness towards his brothers inspire us to respond to betrayal in our own lives?

In Battleship, strategic placement of ships is crucial for success. Similarly, Joseph's journey involved strategic decisions and trust in God's plan. Can you think of a time when you had to trust in God's plan even when things seemed uncertain or difficult?

The game of Battleship involves perseverance and resilience, as players continue to strategize even after setbacks. How did Joseph demonstrate perseverance and resilience throughout his trials in Egypt? How can we apply these qualities to our own challenges?

It is important for us to remember we will have challenges in this life BUT Jesus. I think a memory verse to help us remember that would be good this week. Let’s work on memorizing this scripture so that when we encounter challenges, we will be ready for them.
