**“Exiles” – Peter uses this term to shape their sense of identity** 

- 1:17 “Conduct yourself with fear throughout the time of your exile.” 
- 2:11 “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain…” 
- 5:13 “She who is at Babylon…sends you greetings.” (why Babylon)

**“Elect Exiles of the Dispersion”**

**Three Orienting Truths:**

- **Him**
  - “Our Father, who is in heaven…” 
  - Before we can see clearly through the uncertainty on earth, we must first look to the certainty of heaven.

- **History**
  - Stories of the past shape our identity in the present.

- **Hope**
  - What you hope for tomorrow, you live for today.
  - Our hope is secure
  - Our hope will sustain
