How is the Hebrew word “torah” usually translated? What does it actually mean?

In Genesis 26:4-5, God says, “I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” The last word there, “laws”, is a form of the Hebrew word “torah.”What did keeping the “torah” look like for Abraham?

Look up Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, and 31. What sentence appears in each of these verses?

Now, look up Genesis 3:6. What is the result of a human seeing that something is “good”?

Much of the story of Scripture could be explained as the attempts of individuals to decide what is good for themselves. Why does it make sense to let God choose what is good for our lives?

What does the word “shema” mean? What did God want Israel to do when he asked them to “shema”?

What are some of the ways you have seen the Old Testament separated from the New Testament?

The video explained that the story of the Old Testament actually fits with the story of the New Testament. What are some of your reactions to this idea?
