Host Welcome to the Lab!

Co-Host Yeah, welcome…I guess.

Host Why are you wearing a bag over your face?

Co-Host So you don’t have to see such a terrible, no good, awful lab assistant.

Host Why are you saying such awful things about yourself? Are you sad?

Co-Host No, I’m feeling great! I just wanted to work on my humility. That’s why I’m covering my face and highlighting every fault I’ve ever had. My feet sweat way too much. Phew, that felt good to say out loud.

Host I think you’re missing the point about humility, but don’t worry. We’re going to discover that truth today. Let’s check in on Herman and Rusty. But first find someone and tell them something you’re good at.

Host Do you think that Skip is giving Ethel great advice? What do you think Ethel is going to do?

Co-Host I’m confused. You said I shouldn’t be putting myself down, but you also don’t think Skip is right either. Which is the right attitude?

Host Neither. I’ll explain, but let’s first check out our Big Point.

Co-Host Let’s all say it together, I Can Be Humble! That’s what the bag was helping me do.

Host Let’s explain humility with this: Have any of you ever taken pictures with your parents’ cell phone using those funny photo filters?

Co-Host They can make you look pretty silly.

Host I took some picture before we began today. Let’s show you what some of our friends look like with those filters.

(Show the pictures of kids and/or volunteers that you took using a photo filter app.)

Co-Host That made them look different than they actually look in real life.

Host That’s what happens when you aren’t humble. Pride makes you seem like you matter more than everyone else. That’s not right. Negative words make you feel like you are the worst. That’s not true either. Humility helps you see yourself the way God sees you.

Co-Host The way God sees us is the truth. If you don’t choose a humble attitude, then you can look super weird.

Host Yep, just like this mirror. Humility helps us keep our life from getting out of shape. Let’s see if Ethel makes that choice.

Host Do you think that Ethel is making a wise choice? What is she doing wrong? Ethel has really let Skip’s advice go to her head. I wish she would listen to our Big Point,

Co-Host She’s not all bad. Look at the tip she gave me for washing her car.

Co-Host Ethel bucks?!

Host You couldn’t buy much with that, but let’s see if you guys can tell how much you would need to buy some of these luxury items.

Co-Host Wow, those items are super valuable.

Host They are valuable. Let’s check out the Big verse to find out something much more valuable than these things.

Co-Host I’m guessing the Big Verse will explain how to be humble. That could be helpful. Help as we count down from three, and then you’ll read the verse.

Host A humble person sees other people like God sees them, as valuable.

Co-Host I never thought of valuing them more than myself. Won’t that mean I get nothing?

Host No, if everyone treats everyone else as valuable and loved by God, then everyone gets blessed.

Co-Host Sounds like a humble attitude is the way to go.

Host It is, and it’s an attitude that Jesus chose. If Jesus chose to act that way, then I think we should follow His lead. Let’s stand and worship Him now.

Humility isn’t thinking that you are a nothing or a nobody. It’s also not thinking you’re better than everyone else. Humility is seeing yourself the way God sees you. God loves you. If you’ve been thinking bad stuff about yourself, stop. Jesus wouldn’t say those things about you. Instead, speak good things from the Bible. Or, if you’ve been acting better than everyone else, stop. We’re all equally loved by God. Not one of us is loved more or less. I’m going to pray for you, and as I do, if you’ve been doing either of those things, ask God to help you change your attitude. Ask Him to give you the power to be humble. Let’s pray.
