God Loves Us All The Same!

It's time for the gift exchange at the lab, and Rusty decided that he would spend all of his money on a gift for the prince and leave his friend, Herman, out in the cold. It sounds like Rusty needs to learn a lesson from the Christmas story. God loves us all the same.

Engage 2 uses the “Wheel of Fortune” game from www.crowdcontrolgames.com. If you can’t use that game, then consider creating your own or purchasing a Wheel of Fortune PowerPoint game available online. Another option is to simply play this game as Hangman and use a whiteboard. Host and Co-Host go into the audience asking for letters and guesses. When the puzzle is revealed, ask whether God would love that person more. Then ask the child to explain why.

Host Welcome to the Lab! Merry it’s getting really close to Christmas!

Co-Host How many of you have put up your Christmas tree?

Host No two Christmas trees look the same.

Co-Host That’s true. My Christmas tree is smart and classy, and yours is a disaster.

Host How is mine a disaster?

Co-Host Two words: colored lights.

Host No matter what kind of decorations you like, Christmas holds the same good news for all of us. Stand up and and find three people and ask them if they prefer white lights or multi-color lights.

Co-Host Can you believe Rusty gave Herman an old sock?

Host What’s worse is that he gave an iPhone to Prince Second Tuesday just to impress him.

Co-Host Have any of you ever had someone treat you differently than they did someone else because they wanted to impress that person?

(Interview a couple of kids.)

Host It’s happened to me, too, and it doesn’t feel good. I have some Christmas candy. Do you guys enjoy getting free candy?

Co-Host Ooh! Ooh! I do. I do.

Host How would it make you feel if I stood up all of the fifth graders and said, “I think you guys are amazing and I want you to like me a lot, so I’m going to give all this candy to you.”

Co-Host What about me?

Host I don’t really need to impress you, but I have a sucker that I’ve only licked a few times. Enjoy.

Co-Host That makes me feel terrible. How about you? (Ask the remaining kids) They agree; this makes you seem like an uncaring person.

Host It does. That’s how a lot of people in our world behave, but thankfully Christmas reminds us that God is different.

Co-Host We need a lab assistant to come up here and help us reveal the Big Point.

(Host and Co-Host choose a kid to volunteer.)

Co-Host All you need to do is help us count down from three. 3…2…1!

Host Let’s all say the Big Point together, God Loves Us All The Same!

Co-Host This is good news that brings great joy.

Host God gives the same love to all people. That’s why we’re going to give this candy to everyone at the end of service.

Co-Host I wish I knew that before I decided to eat that sucker.

Co-Host Rusty is convinced that only important people deserve presents.

Host He definitely doesn’t understand the Big Point,

Host God Loves Us All The Same! If he did, then he would realize that every single person is important.

Co-Host Let’s choose a volunteer to reveal the Big Verse. (Choose a kid) I need you to help as we count down from three.

Co-Host Romans 2:11 (NIrV), “God treats everyone the same.” There you go. It’s written out plainly in the Bible. Do you think there are some exceptions?

Host Let’s play a game. It’s like hangman or Wheel of Fortune. You’ll take turns guessing letters so we can solve the puzzle.

Co-Host That’s a list of some important and cool jobs. It’s nice to know that God loves all of us the same.

Host No one on that list or in this room is more or less important. We all matter to God. He wants all of us as part of His big plan. Let’s stand and worship God!

Big Story

Some of you may feel like Mary felt. Maybe you feel like no one thinks you’re important, but God does. He made you and is so happy that you are His child. This Christmas is a great time to remember how much He loves you. You may not feel like He does, but your feelings don’t change the fact that He does. Let’s pray and ask God to help you understand His amazing love for you this Christmas.

Co-Host I’m surprised that the Prince gave the same kind of thank you to the small gift as he did the expensive one from Rusty.

Host I think the Prince must have understood the heart behind our Big Point,

Host God Loves Us All The Same!

Co-Host It’s like God sees value in everyone.

Host That’s true. One of my favorite things to do at Christmas is rip open wrapping paper. What about you guys? Look at these gifts.

Display three gifts. One should have plain wrapping paper, another is nice, but the third is fancy. Have the fake money, the heart, and the brain inside of each box.

Co-Host Looking at the outside paper, one of them seems kind of plain, the other nice, but that one looks really fancy.

Host Let’s choose three kids to each open a present and reveal what is inside.

(Have the kids each open a present.)

Co-Host Money, a heart, and a brain. I get it. Each one had something to offer like money, love and service, and wisdom.

Host It didn’t matter what the outside packaging looked like. What matters is what’s inside. God has put valuable things inside of you that He wants to use in His big plan.

Co-Host Anyone can be used by God.

Host Let God use you as you take on this week's Big Do.

Host Let God use you as you work on this week's Big Do. Do something kind for someone outside your family
