Large Group Instructions
Host and Co-host enter dressed in overalls.
Host
Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors!
Co-Host
We’ve had lots of fun at the Train Station learning about a very special book. Do you know what the name of that book is?
Host
That’s right! It’s the Bible. Who gave us the Bible? God did! The Bible helps us learn who God is and who God says we are. Today we will discover something else that the Bible tells us.
Co-Host
Let’s play a fun matching game to start. I will show you a picture of the tools, and you can match the tool with what it can do.
Host
Let’s practice one together.
Host
Can you point to the hammer? (Pause) Good job! What can a hammer do? (Pause) Yes, it hits nails. Point to the nail. (Pause) There it is! You made a match!
Co-Host
Whenever we make a match, we can clap! Now let’s pretend to use a hammer.
Have the kids point to the tool that you name and point to that item’s usage. If time permits, have the kids pretend to use that particular tool.
Host
You know exactly what those tools can do! In our Big Story we’ll find out what a very important Someone can do. Give us a big, “Choo-choo!”
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
Engineer Kelly has a big question about God. She wonders what He can do.
Host
Sometimes I have big questions about God, too. Whenever you have big questions, you can look for the answer in which special book? (Pause) The Bible! Let’s stand and practice the Big Point again,
Host
The Bible Tells Me What God Can Do!
Co-Host
The Bible (Show the Bible) is full of true stories about things that God has already done.
Host
That’s right. Does the sun go up or down in the morning? (Pause) It goes up.
Let’s stand up and spread our arms out wide, like sunshine. It’s so warm. Does the sun go up or down at night? (Pause) It goes down. Let’s sink down. One day God stopped the sun from going down so that Joshua and the Israelites could win an important battle.
Co-Host
That story is in the Bible. Can you show me what kind of face you make when you feel sick? Let’s rub our tummies, like they hurt, and sneeze softly. (Sneeze loudly, after the kids) Oops.
Host
Whoa, that was loud! There are a lot of stories in the Bible that talk about God making sick people better. That’s called healing. Can you smile like you feel all better?
Co-Host
Make the sound of thunder. Wiggle your fingers up and down, like it’s raining all around you. Blow out air, like the wind is howling. Do storms ever make you feel nervous?
Host
Sometimes we can feel that way. Did you know that one day Jesus stood on a boat and told a storm to be quiet and stop. Let’s all shout, “Be quiet!” The storm stopped storming. That’s a true story that you can read in the Bible.
Co-Host
The Bible teaches us about all of the wonderful things that God can do. I think we should share that with Engineer Kelly.
Host and Co-Host enter. This Engage uses an imagination hat. You can create one by adding star stickers to a party hat. You could also purchase a costume hat and add decorations such as stars or clouds. Have fun.
Co-Host
Engineer Kelly said her ABCs so fast I could barely hear which letter she said.
I think she’s glad she doesn’t have to read the Bible that fast.
Host
Yep, she can read just a little every day to learn more about our Big Point. Let’s practice singing the Big Point again,
Host
The Bible Tells Me What God Can Do!
Co-Host
I like the verse that Conductor Gordon shared.
Co-Host
Ephesians 3:20 (NIrV) says, “God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine.”
Host
Do you like to use your imagination? Do you ever imagine silly things, like a pink elephant or a turtle that can fly?
Co-Host
I brought my imagination hat. I like to wear it when I imagine things. (Put on the hat) Let’s play an imagination game together. I’m going to use my imagination to think of a place to visit. You guys can guess where I am.
Host
That will be fun. Let’s turn on our listening ears, so we can listen closely to the clues. See if you guess what place our friend is thinking of.
Give clues about different places to visit. Keep the places less specific, like the ocean, the desert, the jungle, space, etc. As you give clues, act out being in that space. Describe what you see there and how you feel.
Co-Host
That was fun. You did a great job guessing. These Jr. Conductors have big imaginations. Stretch your arms out wide to show something big.
Host
That’s true, but our Big Verse from the Bible tells us that even the biggest imagination can’t imagine all of the things God can do. He is so powerful, and God can do things we’ve never even thought of yet.
Co-Host
I guess we shouldn’t be afraid to ask God for help with anything.
Host
That’s true! We believe that God can do amazing things. We’re going to hear
about some of those in our Big Story. First let’s stand and worship God.
Optional, play soft instrumental music.
You can pray and talk to God anytime. It’s good to let Him know things you’re worried about and ask God for help with things you need. God can do more than we can imagine. Bow your head and close your eyes. Take a moment to pray and talk to God. You can ask God for help with anything! Let’s do that right now. (Pause) I’ll pray for all of us.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host
Engineer Kelly sure enjoys reading her Bible.
Host
She sure does, and I do, too! The Bible is where we can learn true things about God. Let’s all practice our Big Point again,
Host
The Bible Tells Me What God Can Do!
Co-Host
Elijah believed that God could show the evil king that He is the real God. God showed everyone by sending fire to burn up the offering.
Host
You can tell your family about Elijah when you do the Big Do this week.
Host
First, talk about some good things that God did in the Bible. Then talk about some good things God has done for your family.
Co-Host
Let’s think of some things that God can do and some that God can’t do.
Host
Each time we say something, if it’s something God can do, shout, “Yes,” and punch your fist in the air.
Co-Host
If it’s something God can’t do, shout, “No,” and shake your head, “No.”
List different things from the Bible such as heal sick people; create the world; stop loving us; forgive us when we say, “I’m sorry;” lie, become someone different; listen when we pray; live with us forever; forget where He’s going; be mean to us; be our friend and leader.
Co-Host
I like knowing all of the wonderful things that God can do.
Host
Me, too! It’s so good to read the Bible so we can learn true things about God. Let’s say our Big Point once more,
Host
The Bible Tells Me What God Can Do!
Did our Big Point say The Bible Tells Me What God Can’t Do or The Bible Tells Me What God Can Do?
Let’s say our “ABCs” together. First we’ll say them slowly. (Say them) Now say them fast. (Say them) Who thought she had to read the Bible fast? Engineer Kelly Did she learn that she could read a little bit of the Bible every day? Yes
Put on your imagination caps and imagine the silliest animal in the world. What did you imagine? (Allow for answers) Ephesians 3:20 (NIrV), “God is able to do far ____ than we could ever ask for or imagine.”
