Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I hope that you’re ready to discover new things about God with Conductor Carl and his friends.

Co-Host

It’s always so much fun to visit our friends at the Train Station, but I heard that Roberta the Robber might be sneaking around there! We should watch closely, point to your eyes, in case she shows up.

Host

I’m sure that Conductor Carl will make sure everyone is safe. Today we will discover that there’s Someone who can protect us from anything.

Co-Host

Let’s look at some items and see if you can tell us what that item protects us from.

Show the slides and have the kids answer. Then pretend to use that item.

Umbrella

Oven Mitts

Host

Those things are very helpful to keep us safe. But even those things can’t protect us from everything.

Co-Host

I’m glad that we know Someone who is strong enough to protect us from anything. We’ll learn lots more. But first let’s stand and say, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Balloons, Hula Hoop

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

Do you think Roberta will steal Conductor Carl’s sandwich?

Co-Host

Engineer Kelly needs some help deciding what to do.

Host

Sometimes we feel afraid because of scary things we see or hear. That’s when it’s a wise idea to remember our Big Point. Let’s stand and practice our Big Point,

Host

The Lord Is My Protector!

Co-Host

Jr. Conductors, do you know what it means to protect someone? It means to keep them safe from something that can hurt them.

Host

Who are some people that protect you? (Pause) Our parents protect us from getting hurt or being too cold or hungry. The police protect us from bad guys. Our teachers protect us at school.

Co-Host

And the good news is that Jesus is always with us. He protects us no matter what time it is or where we are.

Host

Let’s play a fun game that shows what it means to protect. We have a friend (Adult/teen volunteer) who will stand in this hula hoop.

Place the hula hoop in the center of the stage and have him/her stand inside it.

Co-Host

(Host’s name) and I will toss these balloons at him/her. We need to choose some friends to protect him/her from the balloons. (Choose 2-4 kids) Your job is to knock the balloons away before they touch him/her.

Play the game. Toss the balloons gently, allowing the kids to knock them away. Play for about 30 seconds.

Host

You did a good job by knocking away those balloons. Jesus sometimes protects us by knocking away bad things that try to hurt us. Other times He keeps us safe in the middle of something scary. No matter what, Jesus is always with you. Let’s see if Engineer Kelly has figured out what to do.

Engage 2Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Large Glass Jar, Glass Cup, Tea Light, Lighter, Water, Table

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

Roberta the Robber is trying hard to steal Conductor Carl’s sandwich, but Engineer Kelly learned that she can protect it, like God protects us. Let’s stand and practice the Big Point again,

Host

The Lord Is My Protector!

Co-Host

Professor Beaker shared a helpful Big Verse with Engineer Kelly. It’s found in...

Co-Host

...Psalm 23:4 (NIrV), “I will not be afraid. You are with me.”

Host

That verse reminds us that sometimes scary things happen. I wish they didn’t, but they do. It’s like this candle. I’m going to place it on top of the water and light it.

Place the tea light on top of the water. Prior to the Engage, fill the large glass jar about 2/3 full of water.

Co-Host

What happens if water splashes onto the candle? (Pause) That’s right, the light will go out. Sometimes we just sit right in the middle of scary things.

Host

What if I pushed the candle under the water? It would definitely go out. Look what happens when I place this glass over the light and push it down.

Place the glass cup over the tea light and push down. The tea light will go under the water, but the vacuum of air inside the cup will keep the water out and the wick burning.

Co-Host

Look at that. It’s safe. That cup protected it. That’s what Jesus does for us.

Let the glass back up and allow the lighted candle to continue floating.

Host

Jesus is always with us, and we can count on Him to protect us.

Co-Host

The Lord is our Shepherd. Part of being a good shepherd is protecting your sheep.

Host

That’s what God did for His people when a strong army attacked them. Before we hear their story, let’s stand and worship God!

Big Story

I’m so glad we have Jesus to protect us. It’s a good idea to learn Psalm 23 so you can remember it when you feel scared or nervous. Let’s practice saying part of it together. “The Lord is my Shepherd. (The Lord is my Shepherd) He guides me in the right paths. (He guides me in the right paths) I will not be afraid. (I will not be afraid) You are with me. (You are with me)” (Repeat 2x) Let’s pray and thank Jesus for being our Shepherd. “Dear Jesus, thank You for being our Protector. We are so glad that You are always with us. Amen.”

Engage 3Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Peeled Orange, Unpeeled Orange, Straw (2)

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host

Engineer Kelly was a good protector of Conductor Carl’s sandwich. She kept Roberta the Robber from stealing it. God protected the Israelites when that mean army attacked them. With God’s help, they won the battle. Let’s practice our Big Point,

Host

The Lord Is My Protector!

Co-Host

We can practice the Big Point this week by doing the Big Do.

Host

This week’s Big Do is to have each person in your family talk about a time when they were afraid. Then pray the Big Prayer as a family, thanking the Lord for His protection.

Co-Host

I’m thankful that God watches over us. It’s good to have God’s protection. Look at these two pieces of fruit. (Show the oranges) They look the same. Do you know what they are? (Pause) Yes, they are oranges.

Host

What is different about them? (Pause) One is peeled, and one isn’t. The orange peel is like protection for the yummy fruit inside. Look at what happens when I try to push a straw into the unpeeled orange.

Try to push the straw into the orange, resulting in bending or breaking the straw.

Co-Host

Look at the orange without a peel. Do you think that the straw will go through it? (Push the straw through the unpeeled fruit) God’s protection keeps us safe, just like an orange peel keeps the orange safe.

Host

Keeping us safe is another way that God shows how much He loves us. Let’s say our Big Point,

Host

The Lord Is My Protector!

Big Review
  • Did our Big Point say The Lord Is My Enemy or The Lord Is My Protector?
