Obedient Heart Illusion is used in Engage segments. This illusion can be purchased at www.laflinmagicstore.com. If you don’t have access to this illusion, you could have the Host hold a heart and have the Co-Host give commands, then after you teach them about what Jesus does in our hearts, the Host could “obey” the Co-Host’s commands.

For Engage 3, The One Ear/Two Ears game can be purchased from www.crowdcontrolgames.com. If you don’t have access to the game, you can simply play the game by having the Co-Host close his/her eyes and hold up one ear (hand), two ears (hands), or none. The kids will try to guess what the Co-Host will choose.

WelcomeMaterials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Bunny Ears

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! Happy, happy Easter! Today is a great day to celebrate.

Co-Host I know what we’re celebrating. I’ll give you a hint, it’s on top of my head.

Host Your train hat?

Co-Host Nope, it’s the bunny ears. Let’s stand and sing a bunny song. Bunny hop do-do-do-do-do, Bunny hop do-do-do-do-do, Bunny hop do-do-do-do-do, bunny hop! That was fun! You can have a seat on your pockets. I think I’m supposed to do something with bunnies today, but I can’t remember.

Host I enjoy fun things like Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies, but that’s not why we’re celebrating. On Easter we celebrate that Jesus is alive!

Co-Host That does sound like a much better reason to celebrate. If you’re ready to celebrate that Jesus is alive with Conductor Carl and his friends, say, “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Obedient Heart Illusion

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host Do you think that Engineer Kelly wants to obey?

Co-Host I don’t think so, either. Are her arms really as floppy as spaghetti noodles? No.

Host She can follow our Big Point. Let practice it again.

Host I Can Obey!

Co-Host I remembered what I’m supposed to do. I’m supposed to ask Chef Bananas to make chocolate bunnies for Easter. I don’t feel like obeying. Would it be a problem if I didn’t?

Host Do you ever feel like you don’t want to obey, Jr. Conductors? I want to show you something. This represents our hearts. Our hearts are the way we connect to God. That’s where we decide to obey. Why don’t you ask my heart to move down this rope?

Co-Host Let’s tell the heart, “Move half-way.”

(The heart moves all the way down.)

Co-Host Did the heart obey? No. Let’s tell the heart again, “Move half-way.”

(The heart moves all the way down.)

Host Did the heart obey this time? No.

Co-Host Let’s tell it, “Move all the way down.”

(The heart moves half-way.)

Host It didn’t obey again. When our hearts follow Jesus, it is easier to choose to obey. Jesus always obeyed, and His power can help us to do the same.

Co-Host Let’s try again. Say, “Heart, move half-way down.” (It moves) “Move a little more.” (It drops more) “Move almost to the bottom and stop.” (Drops almost to the bottom).

Host We can all choose to obey like Jesus did when He obeyed His Father. Jesus obeyed by dying on the cross. The good news is that He came back to life. Let’s see if Engineer Kelly chooses to obey.

Engage 2Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2), Laundry Basket, Socks (10 pair), Mirror, Rag or Paper Towel

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host Did having big muscles help Engineer Kelly to obey? No, she doesn’t need muscles to obey. She already has the power to make the right choice on the inside of her. Let’s say our Big Point again,

Host I Can Obey!

Co-Host Conductor Carl shared a verse from the Bible about Jesus.

Co-Host John 10:10 (NIrV) says, “He was humble and obeyed God completely.” I don’t think I followed Jesus today because I didn’t tell Chef Bananas about the bunnies.

Host That’s true. You said Jesus obeyed God “completely.” That means Jesus did everything that He was asked to do. He obeyed by dying on the cross for us, and then He came back to life. He did that even though obeying was not easy.

(For this next activity choose different kids from the audience to help.)

Co-Host Let’s see if we can tell if someone obeys completely. I’ll choose some friends to help us. I have a basket of socks. Do you ever help your mommy or daddy match socks? Let’s choose one pair to match. (Choose two socks) Do these socks match? Go ahead and fold them together. Would it be obeying completely if your mommy asked you to match all the socks in the basket, but you only matched these two socks?

Host Nope, that’s not obeying completely. I have a mirror. Let’s touch it so it shows our smudgy fingerprints. If I asked a friend to wipe the mirror and he/she wiped the whole mirror, would that be obeying completely? Let’s pretend to wipe the mirror.

Co-Host Yes! So obeying completely means that you do everything you are asked to do, just like Jesus did. I’m going to do that, too. I’ll go find Chef Bananas.

Host Great job! I’m glad that Jesus obeyed because we need His help. I’m also glad that we can celebrate that Jesus is alive! Let’s stand and sing a song.

Big Story

Jesus made a wise choice to pray before He obeyed. We can do the same thing. Let’s pray and ask Jesus to help us choose to obey this week. You can do that quietly where you are. (Pause) Now I’ll pray and thank Jesus for coming back to life at Easter.

Engage 3Materials: Overalls (2), Train Hat (2), Handkerchief (2)

The One Ear/Two Ears game can be purchased from www.crowdcontrolgames.com. If you don’t have access to the game, you can simply play the game by having the Co-Host close his/her eyes and hold up one ear (hand), two ears (hands), or none. The kids will try to guess what the Co-Host will choose.

Host and Co-Host enter.

Host I’m glad that Engineer Kelly obeyed. Look at all the fun we’re having at the Train Station. She followed our Big Point,

Host I Can Obey!

Co-Host Guess what I did. I asked Chef Bananas to make chocolate bunnies for all the engineers at the Train Station.

Host All of the engineers are blessed because you obeyed. We are also blessed because Jesus obeyed. He obeyed and died on the cross, and on Easter, Jesus came back to life. Because of that we can be God’s friends.

Co-Host That means we can live with Jesus forever. This really is a great day! We should play a funny game about bunnies before we leave.

Host Good idea. To play this game, you have to copy the bunny on the screen. If it freezes on one ear, you will make one ear like this. If it freezes on two ears, you make two ears.

Co-Host If it lands on the tail, you must wiggle your tail. Let’s stand up and play!

(Play One Ear Two Ears Game)

Host That was fun, Jr. Conductors. You can have a seat on your pockets. I hope that you will keep having fun celebrating that Jesus is alive!

Big ReviewMaterials: Half Easter Egg, Whole Easter Egg

Host 1. Let’s Practice our Big Point again. Hmm, did our Big Point say I Can Obey or I Can’t Obey?

  1. Let’s pretend to hide Easter Eggs. Stand up and let’s drop them on the ground. We should hide one up high in a tree. You can have a seat on your pockets. What job did Engineer Kelly not want to do? Hide eggs for the egg hunt Did she think she was too weak? Yes Can Engineer Kelly obey? Yes

  2. Let’s put our hands together like we are praying. Tell me some places you can pray. Can you pray in the bathtub? Yes Can you pray while you’re putting your shoes on? Yes Who prayed in the garden in the Big Story? Jesus Did Jesus obey His Heavenly Father and do a hard job? Yes

  3. Let’s stand and pretend to roll a heavy stone in front of Jesus’ grave. Push it hard. It’s so heavy. Wait a second. Did that stone stay in front of the place Jesus was buried stay there forever? No Is Jesus alive today? Yes

  4. Can you make a silly face? Can you make a frown? Can you make an angry face? Can you make a big, big smile? Freeze that smile. What did Conductor Carl tell us to do in the Big Do? Obey with a smile

  5. Look at this Easter egg. Is it a whole or complete Easter egg or a half one? It’s a half one What about this one? Whole or complete one What does our Big Verse say? Philippians 2:8 (NIrV), “He was humble and obeyed God _______.” a. Completely

b. Half-way
