Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! We’ve had so much fun hearing about Joseph and discovering how God had a big plan for his life. God has a big plan for us, too.

Co-Host Would you like to start with a fun game? I need some Jr. Conductors to play.

  • Select several kids to play the game.

Host This game is all about holding on tightly. The Jr. Conductors will hold one side of the rope, and our friend, (Co-Host), will hold the other side. Let’s see if the Jr. Conductors can hold on to the rope even when (Co-Host) tugs on it. On your mark, get set, go!

  • The Co-Host should tug lightly on the rope, but make it seem as if you are pulling hard. Have the audience encourage the kids to hold on until the end.

Co-Host You did a great job. Let’s clap for our friends. I can’t believe that they held the rope so tightly. I wonder if it’s always a good idea to hold on and not let go.

Host In a game like this, holding on is a great idea, but sometimes, in life, we are supposed to let go. That’s what we’re going to discover in today’s Big Point. First let’s continue with a big, “Choo-choo!”

Co-Host Do any of you play soccer like Engineer Courtney? When you play soccer, do you throw the ball with your hands or kick the ball with your feet?

Host Yep, you use your feet to move the ball. But did Engineer Courtney seem happy or angry with her friends? (Pause) Engineer Courtney was so mad! She even said she doesn’t want to be friends anymore. She needs to listen to and follow the Big Point. Let’s practice it now,

Host Forgive And Let Go!

Co-Host Have you ever told someone, “I forgive you?” (Pause) I have. Was it hard to say those words when someone was mean to you?

Host God has a big plan for us, but it makes it hard to follow that big plan if we’re holding on to angry feelings. Jesus wants us to forgive and let go of those angry feelings.

Co-Host Angry feelings do not help you. Does anyone in here have quick feet that help them run fast? (Choose a volunteer and invite him/her up to the stage) Let’s see how quickly you can run from one side to the other.

  • Have the child run back and forth.

Host You’re fast, but I wonder how fast you can run with this backpack on your back. It’s not empty. It’s very heavy.

  • Fill the backpack with some kind of weight. It could be small dumbbells, books, etc. Ensure that the weight is not so heavy that it makes it too difficult for the child to balance. Have the child run.

Co-Host It’s harder to run while you’re carrying all of that weight. Let’s take this stuff out and let you run again. (Take out the weights) That’s much better. Let’s clap for our friend as he/she sits down.

Host Forgiving and letting go of angry feelings helps us be better at doing what God wants us to do. It’s a wise choice to tell someone, “I forgive you.” Let’s see if Engineer Courtney does that.

  • Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Did Engineer Courtney treat her friends with kindness? (Pause) No, she didn’t at all.

Host Instead of following our Big Point, she chose to stay mad. A better choice would be to follow Jesus’ example and do what our Big Point says. Let’s practice it again,

Host Forgive And Let Go!

Co-Host Did Jesus follow the Big Point, too?

Host He sure did. We learned that in the verse Engineer Kelly shared.

Host Colossians 3:13 (NIrV) says, “Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.”

Co-Host Whew, I’m glad that Jesus forgave us. What kinds of things did Jesus forgive us for?

Host Let’s look at some pictures and think of wrong choices people can make that Jesus wants to forgive them for.

  • Show the following different slides and ask the kids to describe the emotion. Explain the bad choice, have them act it out, and remind them that Jesus forgave us.

    • Angry Face: Times when we were angry with our friends or family

    • Bad Words: Times when we called someone a hurtful name

    • Crying Face: Times when we hurt someone and made them cry

    • Long Nose Face: Times when we told a lie

    • Despair Face: Times when we threw a temper tantrum

Co-Host If Jesus forgives us for making those wrong choices, then we can forgive other people when they make wrong choices.

Host We can forgive other people. When we forgive, we get to be God’s big helpers. Let’s get ready to visit the Big Story Station and hear whether Joseph chose to forgive or be angry. First let’s stand and sing.

Jr. Conductors, let’s close our eyes and bow our heads. I want you to think of someone who has been unkind to you or hurt your feelings. Think about that person. Right now, ask Jesus to help you forgive the person who was mean. Quietly talk to Jesus right now and ask Him to help. (Pause) Now, I’ll pray. Dear Jesus, thank you for forgiving us. Help us to forgive other people who haven’t been nice to us. Amen.

Co-Host I can’t believe that Farmer Faith’s cow, Bessie, is playing soccer, too. Have you ever seen a cow play soccer?

Host I’m most proud of Engineer Courtney for forgiving her friends. Now they will all be able to have fun together. She practiced our Big Point,

Host Forgive And Let Go!

Co-Host Joseph followed the Big Point, too. His brothers had been so mean to him, but he didn’t get back at them. He was in charge, and he decided to help his family. Because of that, God’s big plan kept going.

Host You can tell your family about Joseph forgiving his brothers when you do the Big Do this week. Conductor Carl gave us a fun idea.

Host Talk to your family about a time when someone forgave each of you. Talk about how it made you feel.

Co-Host Let’s practice letting go with a fun game. I’m going to pick a Jr. Conductor and hand you one of these beach balls. We drew an angry face on it. When I hand it to you, I want you to let it go and toss it to (Host).

  • Allow several kids to hold the beach ball and toss it to the Host.

Host When you forgive, you can let those angry feelings go. Thanks for visiting the Train Station. Let’s say our Big Point once more,

Host Forgive And Let Go!

Materials:

Hi, Jr. Conductors! Welcome to the Train Station! We are going to have a great night tonight. Can you hold hands with the friend next to you? Everyone, hold on tight so you don’t break apart and walk around without letting go. Good job! Now everyone let go of your friends’ hands.

Today we get to discover something important that God wants us to let go of. Let’s go see Conductor Carl, and maybe he can help us! To get the train started, everyone say, “Choo-choo!”

“Choo-choo!” Let’s stand up and worship Jesus!

Jr. Conductors, do you remember the name of the man who we have been learning about at the Train Station? Let’s try to read it together.

  • Play the following slide and sound out Joseph’s name with the kids.

It’s Joseph! Joseph knew that God had a big plan for His life. Let’s all act out the story of Joseph together. First, he had a dream that was God speaking to him. Everyone lay your head down, like you are sleeping. What are you dreaming about? (Allow for answers) Joseph’s dream showed him that he would be a leader one day. Joseph believed what God told him.

But then some bad stuff happened to Joseph, and he ended up in jail! Yikes! Everyone, pretend to slam a jail door really hard. Now shake the bars of the jail cell. Did Joseph give up when he was in jail or did he keep working hard like God asked him to? That’s right; he kept working hard.

While Joseph was working hard in jail, the king of Egypt had a dream. Let’s pretend to sleep again. But the king didn’t know what the dream meant. Can you make a confused face? The king needed Joseph’s help. Joseph got to meet the king and help him, but first he had to get cleaned up. Let’s pretend to wash our hands and put new clothes on. Stand up with me. (Act out putting on clothes) Joseph used his gifts and helped the king learn about his dream. The king made Joseph a leader! Can you put your hands on your hips like you are important? Good job! You can sit back down on your pockets.

I wonder what we are going to learn about Joseph today. Let’s all pay close attention to Conductor Carl so we can find out!

Engineer Courtney isn’t making a wise choice by staying mad at her friends. She needs help following our Big Point. Let’s practice it together,

Forgive And Let Go!

Forgiving someone means we let go of the angry feelings we have towards them. Other people will do things that make us feel angry, but we don’t have to keep those feelings. We can Forgive And Let Go! In your small group you get to play a game and follow our Big Point. Let’s do that now.

Small Group Leader
  • Have the kids stand in a circle and bounce the balloon to each other while saying, “I forgive you.”

Leader

Let’s say, “I forgive you” one more time all together. “I forgive you!” Those are wise words! Now let’s put bubbles in our mouths so we can find out if Engineer Courtney is going to forgive her friends.

  • Leader enters.

Did Engineer Courtney forgive her friends? No, she is still mad at them and being unkind. I hope she learns the Big Point and chooses to act like Jesus. Let’s sing it together,

Forgive And Let Go!

Did you know Jesus followed our Big Point?

Engineer Kelly shared tonight’s Big Verse. Colossians 3:13 (NIrV) says, “Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.” We all want to be just like Jesus. Choosing to forgive our friends is one way we can do that! Joseph, from our Big Story, had to forgive. In your small group you get to make a craft about Joseph. Then we will hear about how he forgave the people who were mean to him.

Small Group Leader
  • Pass out the sticker scenes or coloring pages and help the kids as needed.

Leader

When we follow our Big Point, we get to act just like Jesus! Let’s all practice the Big Point together while we act like different animals. Everyone, stand up and hop like a bunny. Now say, Forgive And Let Go! Let’s do a crab walk. While you’re doing it, say, Forgive And Let Go! Let’s beat our chests, like a gorilla! Now say really loud, Forgive And Let Go! Good job! You can have a seat on your pockets.

Now it’s time to hear a true story from the Bible. Pay close attention and find out who Joseph forgave!
