Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! We have a fun, but busy, day planned with Conductor Carl.

  • The Co-Host messes up the dribble several times.

Co-Host Dribbling a basketball is hard.

Host Jr. Conductors, have you ever tried to bounce a ball like that? Let’s pretend to do that together now.

Co-Host They can do it, but I can’t. I’m no good. I quit.

Host No, don’t do that. Jr. Conductors, do you think our friend should quit? (Pause) I agree. Don’t stop just because it’s hard. I think you need some encouragement.

Co-Host What’s that?

Host Encouragement means that we will cheer for you and want you to do your best. Do you think you could try it again? See if you can dribble it 5 times in a row. We’ll count.

  • The Co-Host attempts to dribble it. He/She messes up a couple of times and then dribbles 5 times. Have the kids clap.

Co-Host I did it!

Host You kept dribbling. Today we will get to meet someone in the Bible who kept going, too. Let’s get the fun started with a big, “Choo-choo!”

  • Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Mia is having a hard time learning how to read. Have any of you started learning to read yet? Can you read this word?

  • Help the kids sound out the word.

Host Good job. Do you think that Conductor Carl and his friends would laugh at Mia if they heard her trying to read? I don’t think so either, but it sounds like she wants to quit. Let’s practice our Big Point, so we can help her make a good choice,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Host We learned last week at the Train Station that God has a big plan and we get to be His big helpers. Do you think it would be a big help to God if we give up?

Co-Host Let’s have some Jr. Conductors help us with some chores at the Train Station to see what happens when we quit.

  • Bring up a few volunteers. The Co-Host spreads wads of paper on the stage.

Host Look at all of this trash. We need to clean it up. Can you help me pick it up?

  • Have the kids pick up a few pieces of paper, then stop doing it.

Co-Host Jr. Conductors, they gave up cleaning. Look around the Train Station. What do you see?

Host That’s right; there is still trash on the ground. Let’s help our friends. Shout, “Don’t give up!”

  • Have the kids pick up all the paper and put it in the trash bag.

Co-Host Some of the hard-working engineers are thirsty. Let’s help them by pouring some cups of water to share.

  • Help the kids pour water into one or two of the cups and stop.

Host Do you think that is enough water for all of our thirsty engineers? No, there are still empty cups. Let’s encourage our friends. Say, “Don’t give up!”

  • Help the kids pour the water into the remaining cups.

Co-Host Let’s clap for our friends because they didn’t give up.

Host We don’t want to give up either because we want to be God’s big helpers. Let’s see if Mia will choose to keep learning to read.

Co-Host I’m glad that Mia decided to not hide her book. Do you think that Engineer Kelly will help her practice reading?

Host I think so, too. Learning to read is something that Mia can use in God’s big plan. She has to keep following the Big Point. Let’s practice it again,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Co-Host Engineer Kelly helped Mia. She learned that the Big Point comes from the Bible. Today’s Big Verse,

Co-Host Galatians 6:9 (NIrV) says, “Let us not become tired of doing good.” When are you the most tired? (Allow for answers)

Host Let’s see if we can do different activities for 30 whole seconds without stopping. You might get tired, but let’s see if we can keep going.

  • Have the kids participate in endurance activities. Do as many as time allows. You can also consider lowering the time if necessary. Example activities would be holding both arms as high as you can, hopping on one foot, running in place, bodyweight squats, etc.

Co-Host It wasn’t easy to keep going, but you did it. We don’t give up when we’re doing good because we know that God will do great things in His big plan.

Host God wants to help lots of people, and He wants you to be part of it. If we give up too early, then some people may miss out.

Co-Host We wouldn’t want that to happen. Last week, at the Big Story Station, we learned about Joseph. I wonder if he ever gave up. I’m so excited to find out. First let’s stand and sing a song to God.

  • Optional: Play Soft Instrumental Song

We can keep going just like Joseph did. It helps that we have so many friends at church. We can encourage each other. One way to do that is to pray for your friends. Let’s pray now. Can you hold hands with the friend beside you? Let’s practice praying for each other. I’ll show you how. First say, “Dear Jesus.” Now say, “Help my friends to not give up.” Let’s say, “Thank You, Jesus. Amen.” You did it! You prayed for your friends.

Co-Host Mia was able to read the book! I’m proud of her.

Host She found a way to use reading in God’s big plan. I’m glad she listened to our Big Point,

Host Don’t Give Up!

Co-Host Even though some people were mean to Joseph, he didn’t quit. Joseph trusted God and kept working hard. He even did his best in jail.

Host You can all tell your family about Joseph’s story when you do the Big Do this week. Conductor Carl gave us a fun idea.

Host Take a walk or ride a bicycle or tricycle with your family. Decide how far you want to go and don’t stop until you get there.

Co-Host I have a fun idea. Let’s stand and pretend to take a walk somewhere. Where should we go? (Allow for answers) That sounds fun. Let’s walk.

  • Have the kids walk in place. As you do, point out different things one might see on the way. Ask the kids to imagine things they see. Pretend to be tired and have the kids encourage you to continue

Co-Host You’re going to have fun with the Big Do this week.

Host When you come back next week, tell us where your family went. Let’s say our Big Point once more.

Welcome to the Airplane Station, Jr. Conductors! Wait, that wasn’t the right place. Let me try again. Welcome to the Boat Station, Jr. Conductors! Was that it? I’m going to try one more time! Welcome to the Car Station, Jr. Conductors! Did I get it right? I think I am going to just give up. I can’t seem to say the right place. Do you think I should give up, or try one more time? (Pause) Okay, okay, I’ll try one more time. Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I got it! I’m glad you told me keep trying. That’s called encouraging someone!

Today Conductor Carl and his friends are discovering someone in the Bible who didn’t give up. I think it would be good for us to visit so we can learn too. Everyone, give me a big, “Choo-choo!”

Choo-choo!

Let’s play a game together, Jr. Conductors. We’re going to look at some pictures on the screen. The tricky part is that we won’t be able to see the whole picture. At the beginning, we will see just a little bit of the picture, and then slowly the entire picture will appear. We want to guess what the picture is before it all appears. Let’s play together!

  • With the following slides, help the kids start guessing what each picture is. After the picture has cleared just a little, ask the kids if you should quit letting it clear up and not find out what it is or if they want to keep going to find out what the picture is.

You guys had good guesses for those pictures! Let’s go see Conductor Carl and find out what is happening at the Train Station today.

Mia got a brand-new book, but she isn’t enjoying reading it. She is having a hard time. Can any of you read? Reading can be hard at first, but if you keep practicing, you will get better. That is why our Big Point will help Mia. Let’s practice it together,

Don’t Give Up!

There are lots of times where we have to do things that are hard, and we might want to stop. Do any of you help with chores at your house like cleaning your toys or putting away your clothes? Sometimes you have worked so hard that you might just want to lay down and quit. That is when you want to remind yourself of the Big Point! You get to play a game with your small group leader! Everyone, turn around and listen to them as they tell you how to play!

Small Group Leader

For this game, have the kids do various physical activities (jumping jacks, frog jumps, hop on one leg, etc). As they do them, periodically tell them to stop. But when they stop, have everyone say the Big Point and then resume the activity.

Leader

You all followed the Big Point so well! Let’s watch and see if Mia can do the same thing.

Engineer Kelly and Mia went to some silly places together to hide Mia’s book. Do you think Engineer Kelly will be able to help Mia with her reading? I think so, too. It is fun to be able to read, which is why the Big Point will help Mia. Let’s sing it together,

Don’t Give Up!

Engineer Kelly shared an important verse from the Bible.

In Galatians 6:9 (NIrV) it says, “Let us not become tired of doing good.” There are many good things for us to do, and God doesn’t want us to give up! When we keep going, God is pleased with us and we get to be a part of His big plan! In your small group, you get to talk about why it is important to not give up.

Small Group Leader
  • Using the activity pictures to illustrate, talk with the kids about the different scenarios and the consequences to quitting each time.

Leader

I’m so thankful God shows us how to be a part of His big plan. He has great plans for us! Let’s stand up and practice the Big Point together. First, say the Big Point while you march in place, Don’t Give Up! Wave your arms side to side and say it, but don’t stop marching! Don’t Give Up! Finally, march in place, wave your arms, and spin in a circle while you say it! Don’t Give Up! Great job! You can have a seat on your pockets.

Joseph was a man in the Bible who got to be a part of God’s big plan. Last week we found out that God spoke to Joseph while he was dreaming, and Joseph obeyed what God told him! Today we will hear how Joseph doesn’t quit doing the right thing, even when things get hard. Everyone, turn your listening ears!

God’s Word will help us to keep going. Let’s say our Big Verse together. Repeat after me, “I will not become tired of doing good.” (Repeat 2-3 times) Great job! Now I will use our verse and pray for you. (Pray)

I’m glad that Mia didn’t give up and was able to read her book. She is going to use reading to be a part of God’s big plan. God loves to make us a part of His plan.

Conductor Carl gave us a great idea for the Big Do! Go on a walk or ride your bicycle or tricycle with your family this week. Decide how far you want to go, and don’t stop until you get there. That sounds like lots of fun!

Let’s sing our Big Point one more time,

Don’t Give Up!
