Hosts
  • Host enters.

Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I wonder where our friend, (Co-Host), is.

  • The Co-Host enters wearing old-fashioned pajamas (think Ebenezer Scrooge) over his/her overalls. The Co-Host also wears a trick blindfold that makes it seem as if he/she can’t see, but in reality, he/she can. If you don’t have one, simply omit this prop. The Co-Host sleepwalks, bumping around the stage.

Host (Co-Host), are you okay? Why do you think our friend isn’t answering? What kind of clothes does he/she have on? (Pause) That’s right; they look like pajamas. Do you wear pajamas when you go out to eat at a restaurant? No. When do you wear them? (Pause) Yes, you wear them when you go to sleep. That means our friend must be…asleep. We need his/her help. Let’s quietly whisper, “Wake up.”

  • The Co-Host still bounces around the stage while making snoring sounds.

Host Jr. Conductors, that didn’t work. Let’s say it louder. Wake up! (Pause) He/She is still asleep. I think we need to say it really loudly. WAKE UP!

  • The Co-Host wakes up.

Co-Host Where am I? Hey, how did all of you fit inside my bedroom?

Host We’re not in your bedroom. You sleepwalked all the way to the Train Station!

Co-Host I was having a dream that was so interesting I didn’t want to wake up.

Host I’m glad you’re awake. Today we’re going to hear about someone in the Bible who had an important dream. Since we’re all awake, everyone, stand up and say a big, “Choo-choo!”

Hosts
  • Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host It sounds like we’re going to meet even more people at the Train Station who had dreams. Engineer Kelly had one, too.

Host Her dream was about helping people. She thought that was silly, but our Big Point reminds us that we can believe the things God says. Let’s practice our Big Point again,

Host Believe What God Says!

Host God has a big plan to help people, and He wants you to be His big helper. Everyone, point to yourself and say, “Me?” (Pause) Yep, He wants you.

Co-Host How do we know if God says it or not?

Host One important way to know if God is speaking is to match what you hear with what you read in the Bible.

Co-Host What if I thought God told me to take everyone’s toys without asking, so I can have the most toys? Let’s scowl, like this, and pretend to snatch a toy. Laugh like a bad guy. Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Host The Bible says not to steal, so taking toys isn’t something God would say.

Co-Host What if I thought God told me to pray for my grandma who was sick with the flu? Pretend to cough. (Pause) Feel your forehead, like your mom does when you’re sick. Is it really hot? We must have a fever. Should we wipe our faces with hot towels or cool rags? (Pause) Cool rags. Pretend to wipe your face.

Host The Bible tells us to pray for others, especially when they’re sick. So that is something God would say.

Co-Host What if I thought God told me to use mean and unkind words when I talk to my mommy or daddy? Let’s growl like we’re angry and say, “No! Go away!”

Host Oh my, would that be a good choice? No. The Bible tells us to respect and listen to our parents, so God wouldn’t tell us to say mean words to them in a disrespectful way. I’m glad the Bible helps us learn what God says so we can believe it. Let’s see what Engineer Kelly discovers next.

Hosts
  • Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host (Yawns) I think I’m still a little tired. Can you stretch your arms out and yawn, Jr. Conductors? Maybe I’ll have a fun dream about God’s plan, like Joseph did.

Host You might, but whether we have a dream or read something in the Bible, we want to be sure to follow the Big Point. Let’s practice singing the Big Point again,

Host Believe What God Says!

Co-Host I’m not sure, though, that I understand the verse Conductor Carl shared. We should probably read it again.

Co-Host Isaiah 55:9 (NIrV) says, “My thoughts are higher than your thoughts.” Whose thoughts are higher?

Host God’s thoughts are higher. God knows a lot more than we do, and He can think of more important things than we do. Let’s look at some different pictures, and you tell me if the animal can think bigger thoughts than you or me.

  • With each picture ask the kids to name the animal, mimic its sound, and discuss some things it can do. Then discuss what it can’t do (that we can do), such as talk, read, play certain sports, go to church, etc.

Co-Host I guess we can think and do lots of things animals can’t do.

Host That’s right. We can think about lots of things.

  • Show one helium balloon, anchored by a weight, so that it is about as tall as a person.

Host But God, He can think of so much more. He created the world. God is the strongest and smartest of all. That’s why it’s a good idea to listen to Him. His thoughts are higher.

  • Show another helium balloon, anchored by a weight, which reaches much higher, possibly up to the ceiling.

Co-Host That second balloon is much higher. I can’t wait to hear about the dream God gave to Joseph, but before we head to the Big Story Station, let’s stand and sing a song to worship God.

I’m glad that God has a big plan to help our world and that God wants us to be part of that plan. Each one of you can be God’s big helper if you say, “Yes,” like Joseph. Let’s take a moment to quietly think about God and His big plans for us. Let’s close our eyes and tell God, “Thank You” for sharing good things with us and that we will believe and do what He says. (Pause) I’ll pray for all of us now. “Dear Jesus, thank You having a big plan for us. We’re glad that Your plans are good and that we can be Your big helper. Amen.”

  • Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Engineer Kelly believed God, and now she’s helping lots of people.

Host I’m proud of her for believing that the Big Point is true. Let’s all practice our Big Point again,

Host Believe What God Says!

Co-Host I’m surprised that God asked Joseph to be the leader of his family, even though he was young. It reminds me that God has a place for all of us to help in His big plan.

Host We can talk with our family about God’s plan when we do the Big Do this week. Conductor Carl gave us a fun idea.

Host Share something true with your family. Think of anything that is true and talk about it.

Co-Host I have a fun idea. Let’s see if the Jr. Conductors can tell if something we say is true or not true.

  • Use simple true or false statements such as the ocean is blue, the sky has pink polka dots, lions bark, fish fly, frogs are green, etc.

Co-Host They did a great job. I think you are ready to believe true things.

Host We know that God only says what is true. Let’s say our Big Point once more,

Host Believe What God Says!

Materials:
Hosts
  • Did our Big Point say Ignore What God Says or Believe What God Says?

  • Let’s pretend that it’s late at night and we are really tired. What do you do when you’re tired? Yawn and stretch out your arms. Pretend your eyes are getting heavy. They are about to close. Close them and pretend to snore. Who had a dream in our Big Story today? Joseph

  • Use your hands to show me something short. Show me something tall. What does our Big Verse say? Isaiah 55:9 (NIrV) says, “My thoughts are ______ than your thoughts.” -Higher -Lower

  • Let’s name some of the things we see high in the sky. When Joseph had his special dream, what things did he see bow down to him? Sun, Moon, Stars, Wheat What did God want Joseph to learn from his dream? That he would be a leader

  • Can you point to where your nose is? Your tongue? Your brain? Professor Beaker said that our brain tells us stories when we sleep. What do we call them? Dreams Can God use those stories to tell us about His big plan? Yes

  • Engineer Kelly helped collect food for other people. Can you pretend to pass a bag of food to someone else? What’s in your bag? Did Engineer Kelly believe that God wanted her to help other people?

    • Yes

Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I’m glad you are here. I want to play a game with you. I’m going to tell you something, and you get to decide if I am telling the truth or not.

I’m wearing a (insert your color of shirt) shirt today. Is that true? Yes! I’m sitting down. (Stand up) Is that true? No! We are at the Train Station! Is that true? Yes!

Good job! Did you know that God only tells us true things? When He talks, we want to be sure to listen. That is what Conductor Carl and his friends will discover today. Let’s go visit them! Everyone, give me a big, “Choo-choo!”

Let’s stand up and worship Jesus!

  • Leader enters.

Jr. Conductors, do you ever have silly dreams when you sleep at night? Dreams about dragons or pickle flavored ice cream? Let’s all pretend to go to sleep and have some silly dreams. Can you pretend with me?

The first thing we do when we sleep is close our eyes. Let’s all close our eyes like we are sleeping. (Close your eyes) Now give me a few snores. (Snore) Oh boy, we are really sleeping. Our first dream is starting. It is about a strong knight who fights a dragon to protect his castle. Everyone, stand up and march like you are a brave knight. (March in place) Now wave your pretend sword around and chop up the dragon! (Pretend to use a sword) Good job! You won against the dragon and saved the castle. You can have a seat on your pockets.

Our next dream is starting. This time we are eating some ice cream…but this ice cream tastes like pickles! Everyone, pretend to lick a big tall ice cream cone. (Pretend to lick an ice cream cone) That is sour! Can you make a sour face? (Pucker up your face) I don’t think I like pickle flavored ice cream.

Our last dream is starting. In this dream we are swimming under the water. What do you want to be: a shark or a dolphin? I’m a polka dotted shark! Have you ever seen a polka dotted shark? No, that’s just make believe. I think it is time for us to wake up. Let’s all stretch our arms to wake up.

Those were silly dreams, weren’t they? Sometimes our dreams are silly, and then sometimes God uses our dreams to talk to us. Today Conductor Carl and his friends are learning to pay attention to their dreams because that is one way that we can hear from God!

Professor Beaker helped Engineer Kelly learn more about her dream. Do you think that Engineer Kelly’s dream could have been God talking to her? I think the Big Point will help her. Let’s practice it together,

Believe What God Says!

God speaks to us in lots of ways. He can speak to us in our dreams, through the Bible, through the Holy Spirit inside of us, and through wise people. It’s so important, when we hear God speak to us, to listen to Him! He is always trying to help us and He won’t ever tell us something wrong. That is why we can trust Him. Let’s play a game in our small groups. Make sure to follow what your small group leader tells you to say!

Small Group Leader
  • Put the blocks in the middle of the group. Read the list of instructions to the kids and have them follow along to build a tower.

Directions: Put six blocks together for the base On top of those, put four blocks Add two blocks on top of those Put one more block on the top

Leader

Did everyone build a pyramid in your group? You had to be sure to listen to what your small group leader said so that you built it the right way. Good job! Let’s see what else Engineer Kelly will discover about listening to God.

  • Leader enters.

Conductor Carl wanted to help Engineer Kelly understand her dream, so who did he tell her about? Conductor Carl told Engineer Kelly about Joseph! God spoke to Joseph in a dream, and he followed our Big Point. Let’s sing it together,

Believe What God Says!

Conductor Carl helped Engineer Kelly by sharing the Big Verse with her.

Isaiah 55:9 (NIrV) says, “My thoughts are higher than your thoughts.” God has great plans for us, and our job is to believe Him when He tells them to us! That is how we get to be a part of God’s big plan!

Engineer Kelly and Farmer Faith heard the story of Joseph. He was a man in the Bible who chose to believe God when God spoke to him. Joseph got a special coat from his daddy, Jacob. In your small group, you get to color a picture of Joseph’s coat.

Small Group Leader
  • Give everyone a piece of candy and an activity sheet. Instruct them to color the coat with the colors they see on the candy. They can eat the candy while they watch the Big Story Video.

Leader

Everyone, hold up your pictures. Those look great! We get to listen to the true story of Joseph now. You can eat your piece of candy while you watch.

  • Optional: Play Soft Instrumental Song

God wants to speak to you, just like He spoke to Joseph. Everyone, bow your heads and close your eyes. Quietly ask God to speak to you and help you believe and do what He says. (Pause) Good job. Now I am going to pray for all of us. (Pray)

Engineer Kelly believed God and was able to help so many people! Our Big Point is true, and when we follow it, we get to be God’s big helpers. We can do that this week by doing the Big Do Conductor Carl shared with us.

Our Big Do is to talk about things that are true and untrue with your families. Then you can talk about what true things are in the Bible! I know you are going to have a great week!

Let’s all sing the Big Point one more time,

Believe What God Says!
