Welcome

Host and Co-host enter.

Host Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors! I’m so glad that you came to visit us. Today is an extra fun day because you are here.

Co-Host Let’s welcome all of our friends to the Train Station today. Look to this side and wave at all of the people you see. Look to the other side and wave. Look behind you and wave. Look under your feet and wave. Look up in the sky and wave.

Host Were there any Jr. Conductors under your feet? Whew, that’s a relief. That means everyone is in their proper train seat.

Co-Host Let’s play pretend so we can get a clue about today’s lesson. Stand up. First, show me your biggest muscles. Wow, those are big muscles. Let’s pretend to pick up something heavy. I’ll use these inflatable weights to help me pretend.

Use the inflatable barbell and pretend that the weight is heavy. Pretend that you are going to tip over and fall. Move around the stage in a slapstick manner. If you don’t have an inflatable barbell, you could create one out of a PVC pipe and Styrofoam craft balls.

Hmm, that is an interesting clue. I wonder what we’re going to learn in our Big Point. We should make sure to use our listening ears. If you’re ready to have a great day, then give me a loud “Choo-choo!”

Engage 1Materials: Overalls, Train Hat, Handkerchief, Table, Solo Cups, Airzooka

Hosts enter.

Host What is making Engineer Kelly feel so afraid? (Pause) That’s right; she’s scared of the thunderstorm.

Co-Host Have you ever been in a big storm before, Jr. Conductors? Did the wind blow hard? Was the thunder loud when it crashed? How bright was the lightning? Did it light up the sky? Sometimes I get nervous during storms.

Host Do you think she can find someone at the Train Station who’s strong enough to blow away a storm? It would take someone very strong to do that. Let’s see how strong our breath can be. I have a table with cups on it. What shape does the stack of cups make? (Pause) Yep, they make a triangle. Let’s trace it with our fingers. I want you to blow as hard as you can at these cups to see if you can knock them down.

Co-Host I can help the Jr. Conductors do that. We’ll pretend to be the wolf in the story of the three little pigs. Stand up. Let’s huff and puff and blow the cups down.

(Let out a big puff of air.)

Co-Host It worked for the wolf when he blew down the house of straw. Let’s try again. Let’s huff and puff and blow the cups down!

(Exhale again.)

Co-Host Are those cups made of bricks?

Host No, they are regular cups. I have a fun toy that might help us blow them down. It makes a big puff of air. I’ll choose a Jr. Conductor to help me.

(Choose a child to assist the Host in knocking down the cups with the Airzooka.)

Co-Host That was way more powerful than me. Wait, that reminds me of our Big Point. We learned about Someone who is really strong.

Host Some problems are too big for Jr. Conductors to fix on their own. Some are even too hard for mommies and daddies. Thankfully we know someone who is super strong, the strongest of all, and He loves us. It’s Jesus. He can knock down any problem, even if it’s too hard for us. Let’s stand and practice today’s Big Point.

Practice the Big Point and have the kids return to their pockets.

Engage 2

Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host Can you roar like Lionel? (Pause) That’s a big roar, but was it big enough to scare away the storm? No. Can you use your arms to push up high in the sky like Chef Bananas? (Pause) Look how high you lifted your big kid arms! But it still wasn’t enough to push away the storm, either.

Host Is anyone strong enough to help Engineer Kelly? (Pause) That’s right, Jesus can! Let’s stand and practice our Big Point.

Host Don’t Fear, Jesus Is Strong!

Co-Host Our Big Points aren’t made up. We learn them from the Bible. I think it would be fun to learn the Big Verse, but let’s have some fun figuring it out.

Host Would you like to solve a puzzle with me? It’s a Big Verse puzzle. Instead of words, it has pictures that are clues. The clues will help us figure out which words are in our Big Verse.

Help the kids solve the puzzle by asking them to describe the pictures.

Host Great job! We discovered the Big Verse.

Host Revelation 1:8 (NIrV), “I am the Mighty One.”

Co-Host Does mighty mean weak or strong? Yes! Mighty means very strong.

Host Jesus is very strong. He never leaves us alone, and that’s why we don’t have to be afraid. We have our strong friend with us all the time. Let’s stand and sing a song to celebrate Jesus.

Big Story

Jr. Conductors, think about something that is scary to you. Picture it in your mind. Now ask Jesus to help you. Sometimes He will take the scary thing away right away. Other times Jesus will make you stronger on the inside, so you aren’t afraid of it anymore. Quietly pray right where you are and ask Jesus to help you. (Pause) Now I’ll pray for all of us.

Engage 3

Host and Co-Host enter.

Co-Host I’m thankful that Engineer Kelly learned that she can be brave, even during a storm. That’s because she learned our Big Point. Let’s say it again.

Co-Host Don’t Fear, Jesus Is Strong!

Host I have an idea. Let’s share some things that make kids feel scared and think about how Jesus can help us be brave.

As the kids mention scary situations, help them think about ways that Jesus can help us be brave. Allow them to act out what it looks like to be brave in each situation.

Co-Host Knowing that I have Jesus’ help makes me feel so much better. I’m glad that we have a strong friend like Jesus.

Host We are so blessed that Jesus loves us. If you feel scared this week, take some time to talk to Jesus. I’m so glad that you visited the Train Station today.

Co-Host Don’t forget our Big Point! Let’s say it together.

Co-Host Don’t Fear, Jesus Is Strong!

Big Review
  1. Let’s Practice our Big Point again. Hmm, did our Big Point say Don’t Fear, Jesus Is Weak or Don’t Fear, Jesus Is Strong? Strong

  2. Let’s pretend that it’s raining something silly. I’ll start. Let’s pretend it’s raining ice cream cones. Oh no, vanilla ice cream is about to splat on your shoe. What do you want to pretend it’s raining? (Play pretend) Why was Engineer Kelly afraid? She was afraid of the thunderstorm. Who helped her become brave? Conductor Carl or Jesus

  3. Look at that bright light. Let’s pretend that we’re looking up at the sky on a very sunny day. Can you see anything? What could we wear to help it not be so bright? Sunglasses are a great idea. In our Big Story, John saw someone surrounded by a bright light. Who was it? Jesus

  4. Do you remember something John told us about Jesus? Let’s point to different areas of our body and remember what John said. (Point to each part as you indicate it) White hair that shows He only does good things, fiery eyes to show He sees everything, strong metal feet, and a powerful voice like rushing water

  5. Let’s pretend that you feel scared because mommy or daddy is leaving for work in the morning. How do you act when you’re scared? Show me. What do you say? How can Jesus help you? He can help you remember, “Don’t Fear, Jesus is Strong! How would you act differently when you aren’t afraid anymore?

  6. Who can make the biggest, most gigantic muscle in the room? Wow! Let’s see if that can help you remember our Big Verse. Revelation 1:8 (NIrV) says, “I am the _______ One.” a. Weak

b. Mighty
