Large Group Instructions
Host: Welcome to the Train Station, Jr. Conductors!
Co-host: I’m so glad that you are…a-a-a-achoo! (Pause) You’re welcome.
Host: Why did you say, “You’re welcome?”
Co-host: I shared my germs with you. That’s a good gift, right?
Host: Jr. Conductors, are germs a good gift? No way! We only want to share good gifts.
Co-host: That makes sense. God only shares good gifts with us. I’ll make sure to cover my face, so I don’t share germs when I sneeze. (Pretend to sneeze in a silly manner)
Host: Thank you. I prefer good gifts. Let’s keep having fun at the Train Station and give a big, “Choo-choo!”
Host: and Co-host: enter.
Host: Did Engineer Courtney give Conductor Carl a big donut or just a small crumb? (Pause) It was a tiny crumb.
Co-host: Why didn’t she give him a donut? (Pause) She was worried she wouldn’t have enough if she gave them away.
Host: I’m glad that Conductor Carl shared the Big Point with her. Let’s practice it with our friend, Miss Meagan.
Host: I Have Faith To Give Freely!
Co-host: What does it look like to give freely? I’m going to choose a friend to help me. (Choose a volunteer) If I have a big jar of gummy bears, would I be giving freely if I only offered my friend one tiny gummy bear foot and nothing else?
Host: (Shake your head), “No.” What if we offered our friend a handful of gummy bears? Would that be giving freely? (Pause) Yes! No you can practice giving freely, too!
(Give the child gummy bears and choose a new volunteer.)
Co-host: Let’s say I have a foam ball. They are fun to play with. Would it be giving freely to give my friend half of a ball?
(Show the foam ball cut in half.)
Host: (Shake your head), “No.” That doesn’t look very fun. What if (Co-host:) gave a friend two foam balls? That would be giving freely. We don’t have to keep all the good stuff for ourselves, because we trust Jesus to take care of us whenever we give. I hope Engineer Courtney learns that, too.
Host: and Co-host: enter.
Co-host: Did Professor Beaker help Engineer Courtney give freely? (Pause) He tried, but it didn’t quite work. His robot was funny, though. I think Engineer Courtney should trust our Big Point. Let’s say it together,
Co-host: I Have Faith To Give Freely!
Host: When you really like what God asks you to give, it’s tempting to hold on to it. Do any of you like yummy, creamy whipped cream?
Co-host: I really like it on my ice cream. Do you ever put whipped cream and chocolate syrup on your ice cream?
Host: That does sound good. I’m going to give away some of my whipped cream. To do that, I need to squirt it into the bowl.
Co-host: We can tell you when to stop so that you don’t give it all away.
Host: (squirts the whipped cream into the bowl. As he/she does, the Co-host: should ask the kids if the Host: has put too much into the bowl. Beg the Host: to stop before he runs out. Be animated and get the kids emotionally involved.)
Co-host: You have to stop or you won’t have any left for yourself. Jr. Conductors, put up your hands and say, “Stop!”
Host: My can is empty.
Co-host: See, we told you.
Host: It’s okay. I have another one.
Co-host: Is that why you gave it away freely?
Host: Yep, it’s just like what our Big Verse says.
Host: Matthew 10:8 (NIrV) says, “You have received freely, so give freely.” Jesus has given us lots of good things, and we can share some of those good things. We can trust that Jesus will take care of us when we give. Let’s stand and sing to Jesus.
Everyone close your eyes. Think of something good that God has given you. It’s a good idea to tell God, “Thank You” for that gift. You can do that quietly at your seat. Go ahead and tell God, “Thank You” now. (Pause) Now let’s ask God to help us give freely to someone else, since we have been given so much. I’ll pray for us. (Pray)
Host: and Co-host: enter.
Host: I’m so glad Engineer Courtney gave away her donuts. I think she learned our Big Point. Let’s say it together,
Host: I Have Faith To Give Freely!
Co-host: Chef Bananas was kind to share more donuts with her. He makes delicious donuts.
Host: We can talk about our Big Point when we do the Big Do this week.
Host: Gather your family together and have each person share the one thing that would be hardest for them to give up. Even though it might be hard, we know that God gives us even more good things when we are generous with others. It reminds me of this experiment that Professor Beaker showed me at his lab. Let’s choose a friend to help us.
Choose a child to help with the experiment. Have them help with the ingredients.
Co-host: I remember this one. First, we’re going to put this baking soda, what color is it? (Pause) We’re going to put it into the glass.
Host: When we give, God gives back to us.
Co-host: He loves to give us lots and lots of help. God doesn’t give back just a little bit, or even the same that we gave away.
Host: Nope, God always gives us more than we gave away. Watch what happens when we put vinegar into the glass. (Combine the mixture and allow it to overflow) The more we give away, the more God gives good things back to us. That’s why we can follow the Big Point! Let’s say it together,
Host: I Have Faith To Give Freely!
Host: 1. Let’s Practice our Big Point again. Hmm, did our Big Point say I Have Faith To Give Freely! or I Have Faith To Give a Little? I Have Faith To Give Freely!
