Engage 3 uses the One Hoof/Two Hooves Game from www.crowdcontrolgames.com. If you don’t have this game, then you can simply play the game by having one person on stage who chooses whether to hold up one arm, two arms, or keep both arms down. The kids have to match that person.

Host Welcome to the Lab! Merry Christmas!
The Co-Host is dressed in a Christmas-themed suit. Play a few lines of “Happy Holiday” or another holiday favorite while Co-Host lip syncs the song and begins a tap dance routine. Improvise.
Host What are you doing?
Co-Host I’m entertaining the kids. This is a great big Christmas celebration!
Host Not a normal lesson?
Co-Host Not even close. Have you seen the suit I’m wearing? Did you hear that we are Hosting a real Christmas show in the lab? Skip McDougall has brought his whole TV crew.
Host Yikes! I’m scared to think of what Skip McDougall will say about Christmas.
Co-Host Bring out the dancers!
Host I think you mean worship team. And we will get to that in a minute, but first find five people and tell them, “Merry Christmas!”

Co-Host There really wasn’t a little drummer boy the first Christmas? Are you sure Hannah knows what she’s talking about?
Host Yes, I’m sure. Christmas songs are fun, but you have to go to the Bible if you want the real scoop on the first Christmas.
Co-Host Does that mean we can’t sing Christmas songs or watch Charlie Brown?!
Host Of course not! In fact, I love Christmas songs so much that I think we should have a Christmas sing along right now. Let’s see how well you know these Christmas songs.
Host That was a lot of fun, but the problem with some of the songs is that they miss one of the most important parts of the Christmas story.
Co-Host I’m betting we’ll find that part in the Big Point. We need a lab assistant to come up here and help us reveal the Big Point.
(Host and Co-Host choose a kid to volunteer.)
Co-Host All you need to do is shout it out as we count down from three. 3…2…1!
Co-Host Let’s all say it together, Jesus Is King!
Host It’s great to open presents and sing around a lighted tree, but if we forget that Jesus came to save us, then we’ve missed the whole reason for the season.
Co-Host I’m thinking Skip has missed a lot about Christmas.

Co-Host Take a look at this slide.
Co-Host It’s the title to a famous Christmas song. Can you name it?
(Allow time for answers.)
Co-Host Look, it’s “No-L,” get it? Noel.
Host That’s a song that points to our Big Point. Listen.
Play or sing chorus of "Noel"
Host This song reminds us that
Host Jesus Is King!
Co-Host Why does it bring us great joy to know that Jesus is the King?
Host Let’s get an assistant to help us reveal the Big Verse.
(Host and Co-Host choose a kid to volunteer.)
Co-Host I need you to help us as we count down from three.
Co-Host Isaiah 9:6 (NIrV), “A child will be born to us…He will rule over us.”
Host We didn’t just receive a Savior at Christmas; we also received the kindest, most loving, most powerful, and most amazing ruler in the Universe. That’s why the Wise Men took off to meet Jesus and brought him gifts.
Co-Host Giving presents is like celebrating what the Wise Men did for Jesus. I have a fun idea. Let’s play a game. We have three teams of two, with one Adult Volunteer and one kid on each. You can only use one arm, so you’ll have to work together to wrap this package. Ready, set, go!
(Play the game.)
Host Great job to our winners! Just like the Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus, we can bring Him gifts, too when we worship. Let’s stand and sing.
We live in a messed-up world, and sometimes we feel that in our own lives. Even on Christmas fears can pop up about our families, friends, and the ones we care about most. The good news is that we’re not left all on our own. We have a leader and King who loves us and is with us. We can trust that, no matter what happens, Jesus is with us. One day Jesus will show everyone that He is the powerful King. Jesus will set up His kingdom, and that good kingdom will never end. Just think - this big plan to set up Jesus’ kingdom all began with a special baby in the manger. Let’s take a moment to stand up and praise our King this Christmas.
This Engage uses the One Hoof/Two Hooves Game from www.crowdcontrolgames.com. If you don’t have this game, then you can simply play the game by having one person on stage who chooses whether to hold up one arm, two arms, or keep both arms down. The kids have to match that person.
Host and Co-Host enter.
Co-Host Sounds like the true story of Christmas is the big hit, not Skip’s dancing.
Host Yeah, that brings no one great joy. You can’t say that about the Big Point. It is good news that brings great joy.
Host Jesus Is The King!
Co-Host Since we know that Jesus is King, and we saw the Wise Men’s example of how to honor a king, let’s talk about how we could honor Jesus on Christmas. I’ll choose an assistant to interview.
(Choose a kid to interview others.)
Co-Host I can tell that Jesus is going to be honored among these kids. I think we should, since it’s Christmas, play one more game which has nothing to do with the first Christmas story. What do you think?
Host Sure!
Co-Host You’re going to try to guess whether the spinner will land on one hoof, two hooves, or no hooves by holding up one hand, two hands, or no hands.

Host Well that was fun! Hey remember this week's Big Do.
Host Talk about one thing you’d do if you were king Hmmm I will have to think about that one.
Co-Host Speaking of the king, let's hear the Big Point one more time, Jesus Is King! Let’s gather with our small groups and discuss what we learned.
Gather the kids into small groups and discuss the following.
- What were some of the parts of Christmas that Skip McDougall got wrong? The Little Drummer Boy wasn’t at the manger, the first Christmas wasn’t silent or snowy…
- What does the Wise Men’s visit teach us about Jesus? He is King and we can worship Him
- What are some ways that you can honor Jesus as king? Worship Him, spend time with Him, come to church
- How does having Jesus as your leader bless your life? I am loved, forgiven, part of a family
- What did Herman tell us to do with our families in the Big Do? Talk about one thing you’d do if you were king
